NFS: Shift - DRIFT Mode Announced
Yes, you read right, There's going to be DRIFT in SHIFT.
After a few weeks of quiet since E3 we're pleased to reveal a new game mode for Need for Speed SHIFT: Drifting. In the last few years the sport has rocketed in popularity to point where there are large, successful tournaments around the world. When it came time to add it to SHIFT we wanted to ensure the mode was treated with the same degree of accuracy as the rest of the game so we worked closely with Team Falken driver and World Champion Vaughn Gittin JR. Initially the plan was for Vaughn to play the game a few times and give some feedback but he ended up spending more than 100 hours with the team to make sure the Drift experience was as close to real-life as possible.
The team have worked exceptionally hard to ensure the mode replicated the true driving sensation of Drifting and created the same immersive experience as the rest of the racing in SHIFT - just check out the detail inside Vaughn's Mustang if you want more detail of this. While you could already expect the physics to be as realistic as possible, particular praise should go to the car team who've managed to re-create some classic Drift cars into the game.
Designing and coding a drift mode has always been a very tricky experience particularly when trying to make it accessible for new gamers and hardcore gamers alike so the design team spent a lot of time working to make sure the mode is as hard (or as easy) as you want it to be. For new gamers an Amateur setting teaches the basic of Drifting and then slowly ups the skill level until they can complete against the best.
Check these and the other new DRIFTING screenshots in the Screenshot section.
But wait, that's not all, there's also a video included with this newest news.
another side feature, I had found an article at Gamesradar where they are comparing Forza3 to Shift, and it seems Shift may have an advantage this year.

I see a lot of good coming from SHIFT. The graphics look SO Hawt..lol
I see me having to spend 1 grand on a G25... :(
Oh...My...GOD! this is EPIC.
Wow! This really IS a GRiD-rippoff..way to go EA on beeing original!
I like all I've seen untill now.Only the handling of the cars remains a mystery. And because it is a simulator game, they should release a demo.
They will be.
Yeah, it seems that they've decided to copy GRID because it was successful. Of course NFS
will have customization so that it stays an NFS... after all it's the basic feature of the series,
right? Not that Hot Pursuit ever was... heh.
I wouldn't call it a GRiD rip off. First of all, the differences are huge, second, what else would you expect? What you're comparing here used to be two identical looking games. GTR2 and Toca Race Driver. They were similar before, and they will continue to look somewhat similar.
But as far as rip off goes. Maybe you're looking at the damage. Well, NFS had damage back in 1999. Maybe you're looking at the motion blur. NFS had that since 2006. Maybe you're looking at the drift. NFS had that since 2003. Wheel motion blur? NFS had that back in 1996. Dash? NFS had that since 1996 until 2000. Visible-animated driver? NFS had that back in 1999. Legal racing scene? Look at Prostreet.
The one and only thing that might've been GRiD's idea was the impact visual effects from the driver's sight.
Other then that, GRiD brought nothing new to the table. These are the features that have been available in previous NFS games, and since the new developers are trying to get the best out of it to impress EA, are adding these features in from their own previous games.
This game is similar to Forza more than anything else.
GRID is not a standalone game... It's the latest installment in the Race Driver series, so it has to be considered along with all the old TOCA games.
In this case, the very first TOCA (which had only the 1997 season of BTCC) had damage, dash, legal racing, weather effects, different drivetrains... It was far, far more refined than NFS could ever dream of. It also came before NFSHS.
GTR2 is not identical to Race Driver because the former had only the FIA GT championship and was more realistic...
GRID's innovation was taking the concept of legal racing and giving it an arcadish touch by creating physics that were more accessible to casual gamers. It was never intended to be a simulation like GT, Forza, or rFactor. And the blending of those elements paid off since the game was a commercial and critical success, much more than any NFS after Most Wanted.
The only reason I don't play GRID is that I don't have a wheel and my Rumblepad doesn't work good with the game. I still completed 99% of GRID with it, though. The drifting humiliates NFS...
That being said I think the PC gaming scene sorely misses a game along the lines of the Gran Turismo genre. EA could be able to make one if they didn't waste money making NFS after NFS every year.
Hey, even if it were a GRiD ripoff, at least it wasn't like that Carbon bullshit.
i have a question i read in a web this: in NFS Shift you cant custimize your car only you can change the engine and vinyls is this true???????????
