NFS 2010 confirmed to be developed by Criterion Games.

The Need for Speed series is changing and made successful relaunch with Need for Speed Shift. Also the latest Need for Speed Nitro for Nintendo Wii and DS, which was released last week, received some good critics.

We already wrote about a new NFS which is being developed by Criterion Games. As Joystiq reports, this new Need for Speed title is planned for a release in 2010. EA Games label president Frank Gibeau mentioned: "In recent years, we failed to put adequate resources behind the franchise and, as a result, quality suffered". And: "Next year's Need for Speed has been under development now for some time at our award-winning Criterion Studio."

There are no details about this upcoming Need for Speed yet, but as Criterion developed the successful Burnout series, it's likely that this title will go more towards arcade and crashing...we will see...

"In recent years, we failed to put adequate resources behind the franchise and, as a result, quality suffered".

So true.

Criterion has indeed done a good job with the Burnout series. I'm quite sure they'll be able to make something nice of it, although I hope they won't turn it into a Burnout copy.

Need for Speed: ?
Platform: Unknown
Release: Late 2009
“This secret game maintains the underground street-racing trend in the series.”

This is quoted from NFSCheats.com. I dunno if it's true about the description, I hope it ain't, I expect it is... I do see the date is eh, kinda weird :P

Im sure they meant 2010.

If its arcade like, I'm sure there will be police chases as well, making it similar to 7-10.

Well Sin I hope they make it like closer to High Stakes, Hot Pursuit 2 with ideas from Most Wanted, Carbon and Undercover and give the game playable cops which is also been a lacking feature in recent NFS titles for most ports.

@CVPI19: that's something I hope and think to expect.

It's really good for Criterion Games to develop 2010's NFS. I hope in the future, EA Black Box should learn something from them.

I think "Old + New= Will it better?"
BTW, this is Criterion Games' first time, but experienced in making Burnout racing game. I think there might be new content for NFS.

If there is any tuning, I won't give a damn.

I think Criterion games won't turn this into a Burnout copy. They'll use as much of Burnout as they can to save on resources, so it may feel somewhat similar (the same way Shift felt and sounded like GTR2) but they'll come up with something fun and creative just to prove their potential to everyone, especially to EA (kinda like what SMS did, only to a greater extent).

Having enjoyed the shit outta the Burnout Paradise, I'm looking forward to this. I just hope it won't be another half assed arcade game like Undercover was.

i hope that it wil be like NFSU2. i kinda like'd the ability to change the car, and cruse around in the city, with out having those crazy cops after me.

The only things i didn't like with the resent games was that they removed some cars, and tuning abilitys.

lets say that the next/future NFS's should be like the quality from GT5, the free roam from TDU, and all tuning from NFS.

that would be soo cool :D

BMW_NORWAY you read my mind! I hore they will bring back that nice tuning, with so many options (back/front bumpers, lights, all kinds of spoilers, wheels, neons, hydraulics, so on and so forth and add a better interior tuning), keep the graphics from Shift, and the performance tuning from ProStreet, with free roam, driver duels to win one-off parts and cop chases and killings :)! It would be an amazing NFS game! Hope this time EA listens to us players and fans and do not dissapoint us again like they did since Undergorund 2 (in my opinion).
AND BRING BACK AUTOSCULPT, AND KEEP IT LIKE IT WAS IN PROSTREET FOR EVERY PART, ESPECIALY WHEELS!!!!!!AND YEAH THE RIDE HEIGHT, MAKE IT WORK LIKE IN PROSTREET, NOT LIKE STUPID RIDEHEIGHT FROM UNDERCOVER WHERE YOU COULDN'T EVEN SEE THE DIFFERECE!!!!!!!!

Criterion Games, eh? I liked those Burnout' games. (Burnout 3, Revenge and Dominator on PS2)

It's gonna be hard to say if the new NFS (by Criterion Games fo' the first time) will be awesome. (like the customization, free-roam with cops, damage, story or career, everything what NFS is)

Let's wait to them to make that new game.
