Official: Ferrari returns to Need For Speed in a Ferrari Racing Series DLC (360EX)

The truth is revealed, EA and Ferrari have come together once again after an eight year hiatus.
Source: NeedForSpeed.com

Ferrari is returning to Need for Speed for the first time since 2002’s Hot Pursuit 2, and we think the Ferrari Racing Series – only available for Need for Speed SHIFT - will be worth the wait for fans of the legendary automaker. So on February 16, strap yourself in, because the Ferrari Racing Series is going to be a fast and fun ride you don’t need to empty your life savings to get.

We’ve got 10 of the fastest and most beautiful prancing horses on the planet, including the Italian stallion’s most recent triumph, California, as well as modern classics like the F430 and 599 GTB Fioriano and race-bred monsters F50 GT and F430 GTC. Below are all 10 Ferrari’s included in the Ferrari Racing Series:

# FERRARI 430 SCUDERIA
# FERRARI 599 GTB FIORIANO
# FERRARI CALIFORNIA
# FERRARI F50 GT
# FERRARI F430 CHALLENGE
# FERRARI F430 GTC
# FERRARI F430 SPIDER
# FERRARI FXX
# FERRARI SCUDERIA SPIDER 16M
# FERRARI SUPERAMERICA

A bonus for Ferrari fans who download the Ferrari Racing Series is a new set of racing events which pits you against other Ferraris to determine which one of these elegant Italian thoroughbreds is best. The events included in the Ferrari Racing Series are:

# Ferrari Race Exhibition – Four single race events
# Ferrari Time Challenge - Hot Lap – Four single time attack events.
# Ferrari Mixed Track Competition – Four series events consisting of two races at multi layout tracks.
# Ferrari Time Challenge - Time Attack – Four single time attack events.
# Ferrari Series Competition – Three series events consisting of five races.
# Ferrari Eliminator Competition – Four eliminator based events (2 Lap eliminator and 2 Time eliminator).
# Ferrari Endurance Competition – Two single endurance events.
# Ferrari World Tour – A single race series consisting of 5 races.

There is also a brand new set of achievements to be conquered, worth 125 gamer points in total.

The good news is that Ferrari has returned to NFS, but this is currently an EXCLUSIVE to the 360 ONLY. Quite unfortunate for the PS3 and PC owners.

The Ferrari Racing Pack will be available for $10.00 or 800 MS Points. (Xbox Live and NFS Shift is required.)

Now this is a downer.....I'm a Huge fan of Ferrari's road cars, but making this a 360 only download? They lost respect from me beeing a PS3 user, but not making it for PC? But with hope it'll be a case of it's out a month early for 360, and once all the bugs are ironed out the PS3 & PC gets it!

Oh well, back to playing OutRun for Ferrari fun! :) lol

Shift on PC has new-cars modding so they will come eventually, just wait for the first Ferrarilover to make one. It is a bad sign however to treat people this way.

Although I'd laugh my ass of if they follow R*'s patch by announcing a year from now that it will also be available for PC and PS3 as R* did with EFLC.

@CLR: But R* has that right. They made almost fully new games, this is just 10 cars. Besides it's mostly M$ making it exclusive till they're done with it. This one is with EA however so I don't trust them.

Damn EA!! WTF that means from them? Addon cars were always for free for PC since NFS3, thru NFS4, NFS Porsche as far as I remember. All is fcked up now. Times when NFS was just the best street racing game are gone since there appeared stupid NFS based on FnF movie.

Funny thing is EA also upset the people who want those cars only to steal them and put them into their favored subpar game (hello WR2?).

People are already saying the DLC is too expensive since it's $9.99 for only a few cars and career events... I wouldn't be surprised if the DLC turns out to be a flop because those exclusivity rights restrict the potential customer demographics.

There's nothing special on putting DLC for 360 only instead on 3 platforms. It's kinda like they're too stingy.

Oh well, back to Burnout Paradise: The Ultimate Box.

Time for a quote.

Officialy posted by NFSKirk on needforspeed.com:

Listen everyone, we're all big fans of Ferrari so we're disappointed that it's not going to be available on PS3 or PC too...

We would love to provide the Ferrari Racing Series across all platforms.

However it is only available on Xbox 360 as a result of existing Ferrari licensing agreements beyond the control of Need for Speed.

Don't worry though because we’ve got something really cool coming in March.

Finally, we really do appreciate the feedback you guys give us whether it's positive or negative.

However, when you do choose to give us your feedback it's always better received when you keep it G-rated.

If you guys want to get in touch with us personally you can send an email to Drew (Drew@NeedforSpeed.com), Mike (Michael@NeedforSpeed.com) or Kirk (Kirk@NeedforSpeed.com).

Like we said before, we appreciate your feedback regardless of whether it's positive or negative.

Some quotes from EA board:

NFSDrew
There will be some more content coming in mid-March that will be available on Xbox 360 & PS3. As for PC; there is a WHOLE GAME coming that's going to be exclusive to the PC; NFS WORLD.

To answer your question CrowTRobot; neither the Ferrari Racing Series nor the March content will be available on PC. As for future content...I can't say because I don't know.

@FOX: What about FVR? That game is for PC and features licensed Ferrari content including the Mugello track.

I think it just shows how the Ferrari people are dicks nowadays. If I was CEO of a brand like that I'd want maximum exposure instead of exclusivity deals. Exposure increases sales of merchandising which is a large chunk of the income of brands like Ferrari and Porsche.

I sure hope this whole new PC game has ferraris and like old NFS since the PC gamers got shafted. So far for NFS world for pc only. That kind of street racing crap is the reason why i didn't get UG1 and 2 and undercover. If it wasn't for PC gamers all the old games would have died out long time ago and some NFS gamers would just forget about the seris completely.

Obviously, for the die hard NFS fans, this is a blow because most of us play on the PC, but I remember that a guy said in the forum that the Scuderia would be in Shift and no one believed him. Joke's on all of us at the end of the day.

As far as I know, guys from Ferrari are very picky when it comes to their customers, and their merchandise is not for mass market; thus the exclusivity. So in this case, Ferrari and Porsche can't be compared.

Cristi94sx wrote:

There's already a '67 Shelby GT500 in the last DLC.

Sums it all up for you.
As for the DLC, I'm sure if enough people complain, it will be released. Most DLC stuff eventually becomes free or is added to a "Complete Edition" version of the said game and is released on all consoles. ( Like Midnight Club L.A. for example)

I wonder if is possible to get work this Ferrari DLC on PC somehow (or at least replace current SHIFT models), because I mod WR2 game and I read that people can use these WR2 addons on xBox360 version of WR2 without problems.

That's really sad first good NFS since NFS Porsche, cant have ferraris just because sh!tty MS, that's so unfair for NFS fans :( I would love to try California on Nordschleife :(

@ Zpectre: I'm a big fan of NFS4 and NFS5 as well, WR2 is for me kinda like NFS4 now because stupid EA didnt care to continue NFS series this way untill SHIFT (I just miss there road challenges with traffic cars)

Anybody who has said the pressure from fans will cause EA to launch it for all platforms couldn't be more right.

However, all game makers, EA, Infinity Ward etc. are XBOX fanboys. Believe it or not, Microsoft sometimes 'bribe' companies into making exclusive 360 content. For example, the Modern Warfare 2 exclusive maps carry on has happened in the past.

So, don't worry PC and PS3 users. You can just think how desperate and pathetic Microsoft and EA have been together. At least Sony and PC manufacturers don't force people to make special things for their gaming tools.
