This patch fixes Windows Vista compatibility: it resolves two bugs, which made the game crash under Windows Vista. Additionally EA suggests to install the patch, if you want to play in onlinemode.

its just there for prevent you for playing with the trainer :p

I've installed the 1.4 patch but my game still crashes. Is there a way to fix this problem?
This patch solves issues with vista, also supports the online play options and stops the game from randomy closing down.

I ran the application to update the game, but it keeps saying "Old file not found. But file with the same name was found. No update has been made." or something like that. What do I do??? I have the Collector's Edition, and it lags sooo much in a race. I really would like to play at full speed.
This patch did nothing for me, I have the special edition as well, and encountered the same problem as DK91 did. Quick google search led me to a SE specific version of the patch which worked for me:

patch didnt work whenever i open that it shows "old file not found but a file name like it found since file content do not match n upgrading done" something like it
