Hey,
This is an EXTREMELY helpful patch for NFS:HS. It will get the game running perfectly on Windows XP, as long as you already have it installed. I guarantee that this is the best NFS4 support for XP, other than (maybe) the SP or EP. If anyone has trouble running a fresh install of NFS4 on XP, then I always recommend this file. This was previously hosted by ND4SPDWORLD, but since it's now offline forever, I uploaded my copy of it here. This installs EA's 4.50 Patch, a supposed NoCD Patch (which isn't quite functional unless you edit the registry keys), and a 1MB Error Patch, and a patched 3DSetup. If you ever had problems using HS on XP, this is for you.

P.S. to get the nocd patch to work, go to:
Start > Run > type: 'regedit' without quotation marks > HKEY_LOCAL MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Electronic Arts > Need For Speed High Stakes > 1.0 > and change SRCDrive to either '.\\' or your NFS directory.

well.... huhh i can't run it actually after i downloaded... it says "STREAM- unable to open file data music yadadadyada.

what do i do??

any answers?

oh - that's the noCd patch. it doesn't work unless you edit registry and stuff:
1. open your HS cd
2. go to Data\Audio
3. Copy everything there
4. paste in your NFS4 directory\Data\Audio
5. Yes to overwrite
6. open Start > 'Run...'
7. type 'regedit'
8. go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Electronic Arts\Need For Speed High Stakes\1.0 and change the value 'SrcDrive' to your HS directory.

someone should do a fix which allows you to play hs with better resolutions and widescreen, a better menu, better graphics and sfx, and all those things

hmm, any mod tracks installed? Maybe they don't support weather, or night mode :0

Works for me so far. Got me past the "insert disK" issue with my original legal disk. Was also able to start the game and adjust graphics settings. Haven't tried playing yet, but so far so good.

I have a problem with this patch and it's getting really frustrating... I downloaded it about two weeks or so and installed it according to instructions and it worked. For almost two extremely good weeks it worked great, until I tried to play on the network with my father. Both of us have this patch installed and have everything the same (cars, tracks, etc..). For some reason when I try to either Join or Host game on Network TCP it closes the little window and does nothing. So, I tried to install EA's very own NFS patch version 4.50. Huge mistake. I've spent the last 3 days or so trying to fix a little message that goes like this...

Invalid argument

That's exactly the window that shows up whenever I open "nfshs.exe" and after I select Ok, it does nothing. However, I can use the game if I open "PatchNFS.exe", but I still can't access the menu that opens after Join/Host game. The readme from NFS says that if a button is not highlighted it means that my network option is not activated, but I can play other games on the network with the TCP protocol (Quake 3 for an example).

Can someone please help me? I am about to throw the computer away out of frustration.
