Myojinoir 11-13-2007, 09:08 AM never thought someone would put that much effort in a e30 O.o
but its stylish man! I`d like to drive it sometime =))..
Linkin 11-14-2007, 07:28 PM Found a picture of the day I bought it 2 years ago. Not too flattering.

Canada_Kid 11-14-2007, 08:22 PM Wow, that is quite the difference. Good job, the car looks great! I've always been a big fan of the E30s, and yours is no exception.

Killua 11-21-2007, 02:09 PM Your BMW is damn cool.
Synthecide 11-21-2007, 09:24 PM Those Konis are sick, man. If you had Angel Eyes it would make your car look even better....
NFSRacingExpert 11-22-2007, 05:25 AM Cool Rims.
Xereox 01-01-2008, 03:01 PM wow, man, nice ride!! :)
well I mean.... It is a BMW ya know.. Haha
This thing looks very nice.
Great effort!!!!
Rally Master 01-01-2008, 06:44 PM Linkin, I demand that you make a video of said vehicle.
Linkin, I demand that you make a video of said vehicle.
Considering it did win ROTM, that would be a very good idea. :P
Linkin 01-01-2008, 09:55 PM Oh I will eventually, but it's mid winter right now and the car is in storage with no insurance on it.
omg that ride is HOTT! ^^
nice car linkin, I see your work on the car has paid off very well. :)
Synthecide 01-01-2008, 10:59 PM Congrats Linkin...well deserved win :).
Mr. The King 01-03-2008, 10:18 AM Great Car, I had an E30 and the thing went like stink....of course, it DID have a Manson Turbo, kickin power up to 250 bhp, and Flowmaster Exhaust, :rolleyes5 , I'll bet your car would look BAD in a new Body Kit, Custom Rims, Custom Paint/Graphics, a big spoiler, and huge pipes. But now it looks like a 'bahn burner.
Soviet1942 01-04-2008, 12:13 AM Love the car. I have a e30 myself, a 1987 325. Love the car and would never sell it. >:]
Linkin 01-04-2008, 07:42 PM Thanks for all of the great compliments guys. :)
Had it running for the first time since October to put in some new goodies, a Z3 short shift and a new M-Technik 2 steering wheel. Snapped a few pictures while I had the chance.

This one really shows the color well.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v433/boostin59/Gallerys/Mine/snow2.jpg
New steering wheel. Don't mind the mess that the rest of the interior is in, it's being worked on currently.

Back in storage with its buds. :(

Kracka 01-05-2008, 10:17 AM Very nice, Linkin! I now have two MK2s to play with right now, but they arent anything to look at just yet.
Keep it up! Also, have you thought about getting a set of Bilsten PSS Coilovers?
maslcar 01-06-2008, 12:18 PM Wow, nice car, I wish I had one classic BMW like yours. Don't crash it!
Driv3r 01-06-2008, 05:12 PM Hehe... snow plowin' ftw!

SingleT 01-07-2008, 03:55 PM Nice car!
I have e30 (320i) too!
Lamborghnini 01-08-2008, 10:50 PM Wow, nice body work and rims.Usually those fat rims are ugly but not on this E30 :).I can see nthat you changed all the headlights since they are cleaner :].And by the way,did you change the brake calipers on that,if not you should because they probably are 10-15 years old now.

M-Tech 1 bodykit! Please do post more pictures, I'm interested to see your car. This is my best one, my dad has a few really nice ones as well but they are not modified, they are preserved. Looking at adding another one to our collection, a 6th (a touring). Always nice to meet more e30 fanatics.

Killua 02-13-2008, 03:26 PM Hehe, atleast that will melt...
I'll have to say it once again, your car is awesome.
Just wondering, how come you are parking it outdoors after all that hard work you've put into it?
Driv3r 02-13-2008, 04:04 PM No harm done leaving it sit outside in a protected car lot. Plus, it either sits outside or he drives it and runs the risk of having someone crash into him or his paint gets chipped from rocks/ sand.
Linkin 02-26-2008, 11:23 PM Driv3r is right, no harm letting it sit outside as long as I don't start it. A piece of metal has no feelings. :)
Anyways, pulled it out for the year already. Got a bit of work before I can start driving it again.
Stage 1 was the strip down.
Stage 2 was the build up.
Now...
Stage 3: Details

- Replace park brake

- Finish assembling the trunk
- Misc. remaining suspension work (new bushings, etc.)
- Different headlights
- Fix horn
- short shift (done)
- m-tech steering wheel (done)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v433/boostin59/Gallerys/Mine/feb2608.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v433/boostin59/Gallerys/Mine/stereo.jpg
Canada_Kid 02-27-2008, 09:45 PM That is going to be one sweet car. I mean, it is already, but it just gets better and better.
BMW_760LI 03-04-2008, 02:20 AM E31 Ftw! :p

Making progress. Got the seats refinished last week, no pics yet (waiting for better lighting). The brakes are fully overhauled, the keyless entry is installed and working, the trunk is together at last, the short shift feels great (finally tested it) and at last, the stereo is installed after a solid week and 50 hours of work.
The car was totally rewired using a pair of 14 gauge and 18 gauge wires and a pair of RCA's. Scratch built the box from 5/8" MDF.

Trunk:

The new headunit is mounted in the glovebox, a factory tapedeck was installed back into the original place. Music is mostly controlled via iPod in the center console

Subwoofer sits behind the amp panel in the trunk, fires into the cabin through the ski-pass:

Killua 03-19-2008, 04:21 PM It just keeps getting better and better! I'm waiting for next updates, man. :)
Man, those are some nice upgrades. Well worth the effort.
Driv3r 03-19-2008, 09:34 PM It is definatly worth the effort, this system is great! Definatly needs some daylight shots to show how clean of a instal has been done. It just keeps on getting better and better! :)
Linkin 03-31-2008, 09:14 PM Thanks. :)
Got it insured and registered today, drove it around a bit. Lots of fun.
Snapped a couple of quick pics tonight of the color to give you an idea of how it changes in the light.

Speed911 04-01-2008, 07:05 AM I heart the Bimmer. Just outta curiosity, are you done with exterior mods?
Linkin 04-02-2008, 03:08 PM I think so, for now at least. There's nothing left to replace or change. I'll probably change some stuff in a while to keep it looking fresh though.
Hooray for spring, first few pictures of the summer:

Linkin 04-17-2008, 07:00 PM My new license plate came today.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v433/boostin59/Gallerys/plate.jpg
Had to rush out and get it registered yet tonight... never mind my parking like a jackass.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v433/boostin59/Gallerys/plate2.jpg
oh mai gawd, nice car Linkin o.O
Canada_Kid 04-18-2008, 01:24 AM That licence plate is awesome and so is your car. How much do those vanity plates cost these days? When my dad got his like 25-30 years ago, back when you still had to have a front plate, it was like $20 or something.
Sinister 04-18-2008, 05:42 AM nice custom plate linkin.. now its easier to spot your car on the roads.
ck - ~$200 I'd have to look for my receipt to tell you exactly.
Linkin 04-18-2008, 09:03 AM Thanks! $220 plus change for two plates. Bit on the expensive side, but it's a good finishing touch for the car.
Canada_Kid 04-18-2008, 09:10 AM I just found it on AMA quite accidentally actually. It is $194 (plus GST). What is sad is to think that one of my stupid friends burned his vanity plate. It said 'ScotsJep' or something like that and he didn't own a Jeep anymore so he burned it. I still think he is an idiot.
EDIT: $220? Where did you get it? Why did you get two? Oh and it is a nice finishing touch for the car.
Linkin 04-18-2008, 09:25 AM They automatically give you two, one to register on the car and one as a spare/front plate if you want it. I just picked it up at the local registry. It's possible that it's slightly cheaper for AMA members, since the site says you must have your card when ordering a plate.
Canada_Kid 04-18-2008, 09:30 AM That makes sense. I missed the 'Your AMA membership card' part.
Killua 04-18-2008, 02:32 PM In all countries of North America you only need to have the back license plate?
Here we have to put them on the front and the back.
Anyway, that's pretty cool. As you said, it gives the "touch" to the car.
Canada_Kid 04-18-2008, 04:26 PM In all countries of North America you only need to have the back license plate?
Here we have to put them on the front and the back.
In Canada, Alberta, Newfoundland and Labrador, the Northwest Territories, Nova Scotia, Nunavut, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, Saskatchewan, and the Yukon have only rear plates. All other provinces have to have front and rear plates, which means British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, and Ontario.
In the US, only Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts (most plates issued prior to 1988 ), Michigan, Mississippi, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, and West Virginia have only rear plates. The rest are front and rear.
Mr. Sting Ray 04-18-2008, 05:33 PM Not a normal fan of Bimmers, but the way this has been carried out, it looks good.
Imprezzive 04-18-2008, 08:07 PM In Canada, Alberta, Newfoundland and Labrador, the Northwest Territories, Nova Scotia, Nunavut, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, Saskatchewan, and the Yukon have only rear plates. All other provinces have to have front and rear plates, which means British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, and Ontario.
I don't know why Ontario requires front license plates as well as rear license plates. Legacies look much better without front license plates.
Anyway, nice pics Linkin, and a creative custom license plate, too :)
Linkin 04-20-2008, 03:46 PM The snow was getting too bad, switched the back wheels out today for something a little better in the snow. We were supposed to have a nice BMW meet today but we were snowed out hardcore, so instead spent the day fixing little things like the fog light connection and sealing up some unused screw holes. Couple pics of this morning:
My car and my dads car, he brought out his convertible for the "summer" yesterday.

While I was poking around the shop, I noticed a few sets of wheels stacked way up on a platform. Found a ladder, climbed up to get a look. Mostly various Porsche wheels, couple odd sets, and just as I was about to climb down I noticed THESE:
http://img516.imageshack.us/img516/9492/wheel4uc6.jpg
OH MY GAWD, those are some of my absolute favorite wheels for the E30. And, much to my great delight, they were staggered 7.5" front 9" rear. Heaven!
Hauled them down, put them on.

Standard iPod Classic:
http://img176.imageshack.us/img176/2205/wheels3ck1.jpg
I talked to the owner of the shop, he said they were for sale, they've been up there for a long time. They came off a Porsche 944 he said, and they're probably within my budget. The only downside, and it's pretty big, is that the lug pattern does not directly match up with my car. I would need to get the wheels re-drilled and refinished before I could run them, which could put the cost way up. I'm currently checking around, looking for estimates, but man would these ever be baller.

cnlsanders13 05-15-2008, 05:15 PM I also have an 88 325 and i realy want to get rid of the diving board bumpers, where did you get your euro bumpers?
Linkin 05-17-2008, 08:00 PM I also have an 88 325 and i realy want to get rid of the diving board bumpers, where did you get your euro bumpers?
They're standard North American 1989-1993 plastic bumpers with European trim, you can find them on the both the 325 and 318 models. They bolt right to to the 1988. The trim can still be ordered new from the dealer.
Part numbers for the trim:
Front:
51 11 1 945 907
51 11 1 945 908
Rear:
51 12 1 945 927

Killua 05-27-2008, 05:10 PM Very nice pictures. What camera is it?
Linkin 05-27-2008, 06:57 PM It's a Nikon D40 with an 18-55mm lens. Very similar to Canada_Kids camera.
Those are some fine pics you have there.
As for the camera...my dad has the exact same one you have. We've had it for a few months, but I still haven't figured out how to take good pics with it. :P

Haha, it looks great regardless. I am goign to eventually do HID foglights, unless ofcourse I can finally seal the deal on a Vette..(Been working out a few possibilities for the past few days)
I take it those are the 35w kit instead of the 55w?
Killua 07-04-2008, 03:02 PM The lights look pretty good on your car.
Linkin 07-04-2008, 06:52 PM Yes, 35w 4500k 9006 bulb. $129.43 shipped. I'll probably do the fogs in the future as well, and perhaps the high beams if I'm feeling daring. :P
Linkin 08-08-2008, 02:21 AM Whew, update time. I accidentally hit a broken driveshaft laying on the freeway this week, bending up two of my wheels badly. I switched out the two and am currently running a mix of two different sets of wheels.
The good news: Tonight I purchased a set of wheels from Germany! They're 15x7" BBS Style 5, made by BMW specifically for the high end European edition E30's. The wheels were never sold in North America in this size. The guy I dealt with is one of the best I've heard, so I'm really looking forward to getting them.
They have been refinished with the centers being painted "Nogarosilber", which is a special dark silver BMW used on a select few limited editions. I've got a bunch of high resolution images of them but here's one for now so you get an idea:
http://img128.imageshack.us/img128/1852/5c74cb1d9ed192423d9dc08ex8.jpg
I can't wait!!
Sinister 08-08-2008, 05:29 AM you end up paying less than $800 bucks a wheel?.
Nice set, cant wait to see the new pics.
its gonna look elegant. ^^
MuscleCarFreak 08-08-2008, 07:22 AM http://img128.imageshack.us/img128/1852/5c74cb1d9ed192423d9dc08ex8.jpg
I can't wait!!
What is it about that pic that makes me think it looks photoshopped??
Either way, your BMW will look vey nice with those on.
Imprezzive 08-08-2008, 08:37 AM OMGWIN
What tires? Same ones as before?
Linkin 08-08-2008, 10:15 AM Yup same tires, they were not damaged. The wheels are the exact same size which is another reason I went with them, I luvs my tires.
Bridgestone Potenza G009 (rawr! tread)

Synthecide 08-08-2008, 05:11 PM Niceeeee Linkin.
EDIT: Nvm looked up and it said they were 7" wide.
Speed911 08-08-2008, 05:55 PM oh god. That's gonna be hot.
Sinister 08-08-2008, 06:19 PM photoshop them on linkin, until the new ones are mounted.
Jon 944S2 08-10-2008, 10:46 AM Those wheels will look really nice on that (looks nice anyway) but I think with them style wheels you need to make an M3 alike it'll look amazing then.
Linkin 08-13-2008, 10:06 PM More goodies came!
Ground Control Coilovers. They're adjustable so I can set whatever ride height I want.
Spring rates:
Front: 440lbs/sq inch
Rear: 550lbs/sq inch
It's going to be a rough ride, but at least it'll handle like it's on rails and look good doing it.

Synthecide 08-13-2008, 10:52 PM Rough ride my ***, the handling is worth it. NICE bro....
Killua 08-14-2008, 04:23 PM Good looking coilovers, surely the handling is going to be great.
And when are those wheels coming? I'm anxious to see 'em installed. :)
Venom 08-14-2008, 04:39 PM Sexy wheels are sexy, Linkin.
RedTwentyFour 08-15-2008, 03:04 AM oh SH... this is really sexy, as venom said. i love that! pix plz.
Driv3r 08-15-2008, 11:22 PM Should look perfect when its all put together!
Makes me want a E30 again...
Civic_Undercover 08-17-2008, 11:19 AM I love the paint, no scratches or anything. Your work, your cash, has all payed off. The new wheels are beautiful as well!
Nikusakken 08-17-2008, 11:53 AM Beautiful wheels FTW!
MuscleCarFreak 08-17-2008, 03:56 PM Linkin...
Where in the hell are those pics?
That car has to look badass with those rims.
Linkin 08-17-2008, 03:58 PM Thanks for all the comments guys. :)
I got confirmation that the wheels were shipped last Wednesday, so from Germany it should be another week or two. Long wait. :(
RedTwentyFour 08-17-2008, 04:52 PM my amp took 4 days.
Thanks for all the comments guys. :)

i hear ya, the AR TTD's on the cougar took two weeks, and it shipped from america... that was frustrating, especially considering it shipped from california, which isn't far away from texas.

American Racing Torque Thrust Ds are by far the baddest rims ever installed on a car.....
I want them for my Nova, but custom sizes are expensive.
Wont be hard to get the fronts, but the rears would be a blow to the bank.
Jon 944S2 08-18-2008, 12:35 PM Can't wait to see those rims on that car when they arrive, they looked fantastic on the E30 M3 Cecotto we had in work not so long ago. They will be well worth the wait.

HOLY SHIT! that is pure, unbridled beauty right there.
Killua 08-30-2008, 01:20 PM It can't get more beautiful than that.
Jon 944S2 08-30-2008, 01:30 PM That truly does look beautiful I don't think it really needs an M3 kit on it now looks good as it is.
MuscleCarFreak 08-30-2008, 01:50 PM Those rims really did wonders to the looks of that car... Very nice ride
TwinTurboGTR 08-30-2008, 03:53 PM B- itchin! Nice Linkin. Kickass BMW wheels.
Linkin 08-30-2008, 05:19 PM Thanks! I love love love them. Perfect wheels for the car.

Canada_Kid 09-03-2008, 11:50 PM Those new rims look really good on your car.
Mat_Carfreak 09-15-2008, 07:44 AM Those rims sure look nice on your Beemer.:D It's not bad for an 80's BMW. Hey Linkin, do you actually see Driv3r's face to face? You have a photo of your car in his driveway, so that means you know where he lives & what his home looks like.:o I know both of you live in Canada, but how did you guys found each other? Did you made friends over the internet?
Linkin 09-15-2008, 10:24 AM We knew each other before NFSCars. ;)

Just another new picture I thought was worth sharing.
Canada_Kid 09-25-2008, 11:41 PM I still think I like the other one better, but it is a good picture nonetheless.
Killua 09-26-2008, 04:57 PM Those 2 pictures are great, but I prefer the last one.
i like the second best as well
great angle, and the sunset looks great :)
Linkin 01-10-2009, 07:38 PM Been a while since I've updated this.
Nothing has changed on it yet. It's still parked, waiting patiently for summer to come again.
My plans so far for spring are to install power windows, swap the steering rack with a new one and hopefully change the suspension up a bit yet. I sold my coil overs that I bought in the fall because I changed my mind about installing them.
Here it is as of today. :)/:(

NOS Freak 04-12-2009, 01:00 AM nice ride...but I think you should keep it in garage...you spend lot of money of it and it realy, realy looks great!!
nice shot linkin:D I set it as my wallpaper:D
Driv3r 04-13-2009, 12:44 AM Well look what decided to park in front of my house yesterday.

Tubaman 04-14-2009, 08:05 AM Nice ride linkin.....its nice to see a different car on the homepage
Sir Tristan 04-15-2009, 03:15 PM MAN! Well done on the European panels.
It's a delight to see an E30 treated so well... in Poland they just RICE them to bits (the Opel Calibra, E30 and old Golfs are RICE/CHAV mobiles in Poland)...
I'd like to do this to a Porsche 944 when I'm older...
Linkin 04-18-2009, 08:47 PM Thanks for the new comments. :)
Bad news today though, at some point when I was driving one of the center caps for the front wheels fell off. Never did recover it. For now I'm running capless I guess. Hopefully I can still order a new one... :(

Killua 04-23-2009, 03:07 PM I really like the first picture in the first post (Which is similar to the latest one you posted, but I think it looks better in a wet floor :) ). Do you have a higher res of that one?
RedTwentyFour 04-23-2009, 04:39 PM theese rims...gaaah! lovely ;)

appollo four fourty 04-25-2009, 02:52 PM You just leave your car outside!! Damn, get an indoor storage.
Killua 04-25-2009, 04:30 PM Thanks for the picture, Linkin.
... but why don't you have a car cover? Leaving the car in which you have worked that much at outdoors, with the sun or rain affecting it doesn't sound like a good idea.
Linkin 04-25-2009, 06:51 PM It's a car, it's made to spend all of its time outdoors exposed to the elements. Of course I'd like to keep it safe indoors forever but in the end it's just a bunch of metal and plastic. It doesn't care if it's cold or hot, sunny or cloudy, night or day. It's not sitting for years at a time rusting away. And besides that, car covers will scuff paint extremely easy unless the car is absolutely spotless when you put it away. They can also trap dirt and moisture against the paint and do even more damage.
And if you look at that picture carefully you'll notice it does have a cover. Of snow. :P
nextgentechnologies 04-25-2009, 07:00 PM mm nice
have you ever considered an e46
Sir Tristan 04-29-2009, 01:59 PM Linkin - again, great care of this e30, probably the best one ive ever seen
Thomas_C 04-29-2009, 03:18 PM Hi,
I didn't know you are a girl... ;) car looks fabulous, I always wanted to have one of these.......(never had)
In now days buing e30 is very risky. It has few years and you have to be ready that you will have to work on it and pay extra cash for parts , mechanics ...
Few weeks ago I've bought my first car, maybe I'll show it one day on this forum .......
Take Care !!! E30 is a still living legend...... !!!!
Dr.DooM 04-29-2009, 03:59 PM If i am right, thats either his girlfriend in his avartar or just some bird he thinks is hot.
i believe linkin has already done the whole spending money on mechanics part and please post your car, its nice to have something different!
Linkin 04-30-2009, 03:52 AM Heh I'm not a girl, I just have random female avatars to mix it up. Thanks for the comments. I'm finished the whole restoration/build stage at this point. Now I'm just driving the hell out of it and loving every minute. On one hand I'd love to just leave it alone and keep it in the condition it's in, but on the other hand I'm finally realizing that cars are meant to be driven and enjoyed. Of course that doesn't mean you shouldn't take excellent care of it, but you shouldn't be scared of using it either. :)

Thomas_C 06-29-2009, 10:53 AM The E30 is elegant, classy, stylish and agressive. The newest BMW's like M6, E92, Z4 ...look like fishes or cartoon characters :) ..... they've lost BMW soul. AUDIs didn't lost their way if we talk about german cars.
Linkin 08-31-2009, 04:02 PM Hooray, my favorite time of the year! Time to lower the car again! The car now sits 4" off the ground.

Tubaman 09-01-2009, 11:47 AM Looking nice linkin...BTW do you still have those Borbet Type A's? If you do send them to me:P
Killua 09-01-2009, 05:01 PM Words are not enough to describe the beauty of this car. Looks awesome with the new springs and I bet it drives better too.
I'm kind of curious about that "Complicated Photography" text in the corner. Is it just a hobby or are you turning your photography into a small business?
Zpectre 09-01-2009, 08:02 PM This car's awesome, a true classic!
Linkin 09-02-2009, 12:41 AM Thanks guys! I'm in the mood to spend more money on the car and have a few more little things coming very soon.

I'm kind of curious about that "Complicated Photography" text in the corner. Is it just a hobby or are you turning your photography into a small business?
Right now it's just watermark I've started putting on my pictures to identify them. I found some posted on other sites by complete strangers and figured I could start branding my stuff and getting a name out there. Also I've recently started getting a few requests to do paid photography, so a small side business might be an option.
DodgeBoy 09-02-2009, 07:45 AM That thing is nice!
SVP Edition 09-02-2009, 11:20 PM Very nice e30. I like how its a coupe 90% of the ones where I am are 318i saloons lol they are so slow.

Canada_Kid 09-15-2009, 01:32 PM Great photography showcasing a great car. The track looks like fun. I'd love to do that, but I don't really have a car anymore.
It's got a better stance with the new springs, I just hope it isn't as uncomfortable as mine got because of the lowering.
BTW what happened to the other rims?
Linkin 09-15-2009, 06:51 PM It's got a better stance with the new springs, I just hope it isn't as uncomfortable as mine got because of the lowering.

I actually prefer the new ride. It is stiffer and harsher, but it was never a soft ride to begin with and my preference is harsh firm rides. You can feel every little bump and imperfection in the road and I love it. I've never been a fan of that buttery smooth Cadillac ride.
The old wheels were damaged beyond repair last summer after hitting a pole laying across the road.
Linkin 01-09-2010, 07:52 PM Washed today, an tested out my idea for this years sticker. Thoughts?

Sir Tristan 01-10-2010, 09:22 AM 2 late 80s Euro sports cars. It's a nice lineup.
How much horsepower do you think this car has?
But MAN, the sticker is just SO cool. It's probably best read on the track after being overtaken. "Deal with it." :D
Linkin 01-10-2010, 10:25 AM Thanks! I'd reckon it has about... 90hp. It's pretty slow. Definitely more of a looker than a driver.
Primus 01-10-2010, 10:29 AM lulz linkin is a ricer.
I thought those cars came with 168HP stock. WTF happened?
Sir Tristan 01-10-2010, 01:59 PM Over the years, engines decay. But not that much, especially Euro ones. What's happened?
Bl0cks 01-10-2010, 02:21 PM I am offended by your sticker.
Meastro444 01-10-2010, 02:45 PM I am offended by your sticker.
Deal with it!
Driv3r 01-10-2010, 03:12 PM I thought those cars came with 168HP stock. WTF happened?
Depends on the Model and Engine. The 168Hp ones have the 2.5L inline six, while Linkin's has a 2.7L Inline 6 with oh say 125ish? It was built more for fuel economy and torque then anything.
Zpectre 01-10-2010, 04:09 PM Best car on the forum. :) Deal with it.

Linkin 05-31-2011, 07:12 PM Decided to do the 2.7i conversion on my Super Eta today. It's a nice improvement! Allow me to take you on a terrible photo journey:
Started with an M20B25 from an '89 325i:
http://img23.imageshack.us/img23/5568/dsc0409uq.jpg
Off comes the top half and into the solvent tank:
http://img856.imageshack.us/img856/2148/dsc0413n.jpg
Degrease (x4) and pressure wash repeatedly:
http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/601/dsc0415wa.jpg
Thoroughly dry off outside:
http://img717.imageshack.us/img717/705/dsc0419v.jpg
Pull the old head off (shame, it's in fantastic shape):
http://img844.imageshack.us/img844/3781/dsc0416e.jpg
http://img820.imageshack.us/img820/8100/dsc0425g.jpg
Install the new one (replacing the exhaust shields soon)
http://img16.imageshack.us/img16/7870/dsc0428y.jpg
Clean everything up and mess up the HID's in the process:
http://img219.imageshack.us/img219/5734/dsc0435d.jpg
Done! Took about 6 hours total but the whole thing went quite smoothly. The difference in power is immediately noticeable, it still has the exact same great low-end torque the ETA is known for but with the hard pulling horsepower the 325i offers. It's really the best of both worlds which is exactly what I was hoping for.
Vanexroxics 05-31-2011, 07:42 PM I must. not. fap.
Oh god Linkin, that's awesome.
MuscleCarFreak 05-31-2011, 07:50 PM Gotta say, fine job there... I've always liked this car, and the mods are very tasteful...
Tubaman 05-31-2011, 08:03 PM 6 hours for an engine swap?! Dang man, you work fast. Any plans for a turbo?
Tails_16v 06-01-2011, 01:06 AM Is your red bimmer engineless right now? :P
Sir Tristan 06-01-2011, 06:40 AM 6 cylinders... 6 hours.
So this is a straight 6 dedicated for the 3 series. Previously, did this car have a 4-banger?
Killua 06-01-2011, 06:28 PM I had forgotten how cool you car was.
And nice modification, I had no idea you could to that! Did you just simply fit the M20B25 head on the M20B27 block? And what about the timing, ECU and other stuff after that?

That's exactly what the conversion was, a straight top-half swap. The ECU was also switched along with the intake which is all plug-n-play. Fired up right away as if it had been built that way from the factory!
6 cylinders... 6 hours.

Nope the car always had the bigger M20B27 engine, however it had a slower, underperforming head design and restrictive air and oil flow. Killua explained it right. The M20B25 is the better performing 325i engine, by putting the higher performance head on the bigger block it basically turned the engine into a 2.7L 325i (known as a 327i Stroker by the e30 community.) It should be good for around 180hp, and judging by the butt dyno and my friends stock 325i it is indeed more powerful.
Is your red bimmer engineless right now? :P
Nope it's in fully functioning order. :)
6 hours for an engine swap?! Dang man, you work fast. Any plans for a turbo?
Not yet, but this is the IDEAL e30 engine to turbo. Most guys do this conversion to prepare for boost, but I'm not ready for it yet on my DD. Already have a fast E30, need to keep this one reliable. ;)
I must. not. fap.
Oh god Linkin, that's awesome.
Gotta say, fine job there... I've always liked this car, and the mods are very tasteful...
Thanks guys!
2-Edge 06-01-2011, 07:36 PM E30 is definitely the best looking 3-series and yours is prime example what it should be like.

Very impressive and thoughtful finetuning. Damn.

You'll be sporting 2 monsters then, won't ya :D

Sweet stuff! Although, I'm wondering if the enlarged stroke didn't cause any problems with the new ECU... I mean, shouldn't the plugs fire at a different speed due to the longer time in which the piston reaches TDC or... something? Maybe I'm thinking too much about it; I'm always interested in the little details.
By the way, the internals look great. I guess that's what you get with German engineering and a responsible owner. :)
Shift 2 in real life ..f'yeah! XD
