View Full Version : "The Congo Cruisers" 1993 Cadillac DeVille and 91' Cadillac Allante.
Mr. Sting Ray 03-10-2008, 08:23 PM Good news, I bought my old 93 DeVille back from the guy I sold it to in October yesterday, since he couldn't afford to put gas in it. I've been lazy all day until now to put this up.
My engine.

Otherwise, the time I had driving before I sold it earlier this year, it's been a great automobile. And I now have it back in my possesion which to me is like seeing an old friend again. Mods include 4 15" MTX jackhammer subs, with 4 1,000 watt Alpine amps, Pioneer head unit, and Cherrybomb dual exhaust.
Imprezzive 03-10-2008, 08:35 PM Both Caddilacs are very nice :)
Why did you get it back? Too painful to part with it? New owner didn't want it?
Mr. Sting Ray 03-10-2008, 08:38 PM Yeah, it's my favorite out of the 3 Caddies I have. And I missed it so. I mean I like the 91 Allante I have and are restoring and the 81 Eldorado I just bought, but I've had so much backseat fun in the DeVille, if you know what I mean. And I wanted my 4 door again.
RedTwentyFour 03-11-2008, 05:29 AM finally a cadillac fellow rocks it in here :)
you know i love that car, man. thanks for showing off, best thread for today!
imho you should change your sig and use this pic for it: http://img168.imageshack.us/my.php?image=1001933ui1.jpg or any other pic with the logo in the center.

Civic_Undercover 03-11-2008, 09:18 PM lol, the guy couldn't pay for the gas? What was he doing, going on roadtrips? Anyways, as soon as I read "Dual Cherrybom Exhaust" I knew this one's a winner :D
Is it really loud from the outside, yet extremely quiet inside? If so, you got some good sound deadening cuz cherrybombs are really loud exhausts....
very nice caddy, it looks great next to the new one :)
Mr. Sting Ray 03-14-2008, 08:38 AM Got something coming soon. 1973 Coupe DeVille.
Civic_Undercover 03-18-2008, 08:40 PM Where on earth do you find such old cars, yet in such good shape?! It baffles me...
A 73' Coupe DeVille would be an awesome counterpart to the sedan, showing both the old and new designs :D good luck with her.
Damn, how many more Caddies do you plan on getting? :P

There's no such thing as too many Caddies.
Mr. Sting Ray 04-14-2008, 05:50 PM Well, just had the repaint done on the Allante, now all I need to do, is the interior which is torn up.

And this is what it looked like when I first bought it from the scrapyard. I've spent a lot just to fix this cruiser.

Civic_Undercover 04-14-2008, 06:50 PM Allante... a rare find, glad you knew to fix her up! When you got it at the scrapyard, would it run and drive? The front end looked pretty banged up.....
It looks so beaufiful now :)
Mr. Sting Ray 04-15-2008, 07:50 AM Nah, the engine block was cracked, the air bag was deployed and the front a arm was broke among things. Btw, I have changed my mind about the 73, I'd rather have a 1970 Eldorado with the 500 Cube 8.2 litre V8. I was reading that year has 400 HP at 4400 rpms and a beefy 550 ft lbs of tq at 3000 rpms stock. Single digit gas mileage baby!
Killua 04-15-2008, 04:23 PM That Allante is so beautiful! You did a great work fixing it.
Civic_Undercover 04-16-2008, 08:55 PM Holy cow... 550 ft lbs of torque! That's crazy....
Eldorados are hard to find, and they were the highest on the list of caddilacs one could buy. Plus affter 71' they really started detuning the motors which sucks majorly. 1970 was THE year for high powered motors, so go with the 70' eldo :)
Are you in heaven or what? :)
The newer Eldorados are win too see if you can get your hands on one. I saw one on craigslist for 3K with like 150K miles on it. it had a V8 and black paint. it was in pretty good shape.
Mr. Sting Ray 04-17-2008, 06:22 AM Old Car Trader too. The Eldorados that are becoming increasingly harder to find and more exspensive are the pre 1967 RWD Eldos. So rest assured I'll find what I usually look for.

The newer ones are nice, but I just don't like working on the Northstar V8, it's a pain in the *** because it's exspensive to fix, and it's prone to leaking oil out the ***. I've already found three eldos from 1970 for 10 grand or less.
Mr. Sting Ray 04-17-2008, 10:34 PM Thought I put this really old video up.

LOL, not quite sure how we can bring that about.
Mr. Sting Ray 04-24-2008, 06:43 PM Got rid of the old torn up tan leather interior and headliner for the takeoff top. I have have it outfitted in black which I think fits the Allante better now.

Mr. Sting Ray 04-27-2008, 06:04 PM Beautiful, you did a gr8 job with the interior replacement, it's much better now :D
You should have seen it before. It looked like a grizzly bear got in a fight with a polar bear inside it.
Civic_Undercover 04-27-2008, 07:15 PM Wow... it was THAT bad? Even better you fixed it then! I take it the previous owner didn't treat it as nicely as you do, or maybe it was just old lol.
Mr. Sting Ray 04-28-2008, 06:34 AM Well, it was in a junkyard.
Mr. Sting Ray 05-02-2008, 09:44 AM I want a 2nd opinion fellas. Do you guys think a woodgrain kit like this would look good in my Allante?
http://documents.clubexpress.com/clubs/434240/graphics/Steering%20Wheel.jpg
Killua 05-02-2008, 05:25 PM The dashboard looks pretty nice with the black it has now. IMO if the wood was darker, it would be much better.
hondaman 05-03-2008, 12:28 AM I agree that a little darker wood tone would look better.
Nice Allante though, I've always had a thing for them.

Jesusv 05-10-2008, 05:08 PM Very nice cars man, you should let me borrow one. :P
Mr. Sting Ray 05-28-2008, 07:05 PM I got some really bad news folks. The engine on the Allante caught fire. The coolant line had ruptured somehow. Don't ask, I still don't really know how it happened. But the engine started smoking in traffic this morning, and when I opened the hood, a blaze had just started. Fire and rescue guys showed up pretty quickly though, so I was able to have the car saved but with considerable damage. Sucks.
Killua 05-29-2008, 11:33 AM Dammit, first was that crash with the DeVille and now the Allante caught fire? Crap...
How much of the car was damaged? I guess it only was the engine bay.
Mr. Sting Ray 05-30-2008, 06:41 PM Well, considering the firewall did it's job, the fire was contained to just the engine bay.
Civic_Undercover 06-04-2008, 08:08 PM When did you have the Allante last inspected? If it was recent and no signs showed up, it was just fate/bad luck/weird mechanical error. But, it's good the fire didn't spread throughout the car. You should still have a rolling chassis, which is good as you might be able to get a replacement engine or maybe fit an LT-1 inside :D
Mr. Sting Ray 06-06-2008, 02:04 PM It's FWD, so no LT-1 here. But...I'm thinking about cramming a 4.9 L in it. It originally had a beefed up 4.5 L in it. Another option is to upgrade it to 1993 Allante engine status. 32 Valve Northstar.
Mr. Sting Ray 06-07-2008, 03:20 PM Anybody ever heard a Caddy make this kinda sound?

Mr. Sting Ray 09-17-2008, 08:43 PM These are about to get put on soon. 2001 17" DeVille DTS Package rims that are $700 a piece, rare and not made anymore. Also the Vogue tires were $1,200

Dude, if you get those valvestems, be extra careful....
I have them on my Baja, and two out of the four have corroded inside, and now wont come off... I'm turning the whole valvestem when I try to remove them... have to get some PB Blast or something to help remove them.
Bl0cks 10-26-2008, 12:53 PM Nice video you found there.

Mr. Sting Ray 02-18-2009, 12:26 PM Ghetto weld my ***. I did it with a Lincoln MIG welder.
Tubaman 02-18-2009, 02:19 PM Sounds nice but there is one thing i don't get. Why is your name "Mr. Sting Ray"?
Mr. Sting Ray 03-06-2009, 03:13 PM DeVille is now permanently sold. Got something in the works with the proceeds from this car's sale.
