3.8L V6 (L36 to you americans). Pretty much stock, and plan to keep it like that for now :)

Nice looking car right there. I wish we got that type of stuff here in the United States...although the recent introduction of the European models are pretty awesome.

Neat ride. Awesome engine. I have the same L36 in my Buick LeSabre.

You do though, as the Pontiac G8 :p. Somewhat limited range of trim levels compared to here though :)

You do live in Victoria, but I live in South Australia. The VY Berlina is pretty nice, but I'm usually a Ford fan.:P I don't mind HOLDEN's anymore though & I like the awesome new HSV W427 with a mighty LS7.:) It's Autralia's fastest car as a 4 door sedan. How much would it worth to get one of them VY Commodores now?

Isn't it the North American variant (of the Commodore) the Pontiac G8?

Yes you're right, it's true. The G8 is newer than this Commodore & it has a V8. It should be pretty good & I actually like the looks of Pontiacs than HOLDENS.

Why not? The only Aussie Commodores I like are the HSV series. The Ford & FPV Falcons are direct rivals, but I don't think they exist in America.

Oh fiddlesticks, who cares about looks, when you have the charm of the LS2.

Looks are really crucial especially when taking into account Pontiac's ugly designs. :P

Mmm yes, Berlinas were available with an LS1 V8 I believe.

Yeah, the VZ's got the LS2, though i belive it was only later in life, shortly before the VE (Which is what the G8 is) came into production.

yep thats right. GM uses the following names for their Commodores worldwide as far as i know:

Holden Commodore (Australia)
Chevrolet Lumina - LS, S, SS Variants (Middle East)
Pontiac G8 (USA)
Vauxhall Monaro (Europe i think)

Vauxhall Monaro is for the UK & it's a 2 door coupe, not 4 door sedan like the Commodore.

It's just as hard to get hold of HSV bits over here as it is in the US. Even if you walk into a Holden dealership they won't sell you HSV parts unless you own a HSV, even if its something as trivial as a badge :\

Damn...what about the basic body shit?

I want a VZ front clip but theres a company JHP that charges a rediculous amount for it.

Either way, love the car! I am looking to get a set of Commodore VX tail lights aswell, found some on ebay.com.au for 26 bucks USD. Dunno if he ships internationaly though.

Edlemur: That was the only dirty floormat at the time lol, my friend got in to grab something right before the shot was taken :(

The Vauxhall Monaro is in fact a Monaro, not a Commodore. :)

The Commodore is also called Chevrolet Omega in Brazil. GM used to build the old Opel Omega/Senator in Brazil (badged as Chevrolet) but they decided to replace it with the then Holden Commodore instead of the newer Opel Omega sold in Europe at the time. Nowadays the Omega no longer exists in Europe but, because the Omega badge is traditionally associated with luxury in Brazil (it was Brazil's most luxurious domestic car for years and it still plays a role as the presidential car), they kept badging the newer Commodores as Chevrolet Omega.

I've never been inside the new Commodores but judging by the old model I must say it's a finely-crafted, very comfortable car.

Yep I agree & of course the Monaro is not a Commodore. I've sat in a few different VE Commodores before, even the V8 models such as SS.:D

If its genuine parts then the price is about right (most of the cost is probably the foglights + shipping). There are companies that make fiberglass copies of Holden/HSV bumpers (e.g. SSV.com.au) but i haven't seen a VZ monaro one, which is odd since they fit Commodores too and thus be a popular conversion.

Taillights are easy to get hold of because they are an extremely popular conversion for VT/VX commodores.

My friend and I are thinking about making reproduction bumpers out of fiberglass for the American market..but we just dont want to get in over our heads.

There is a company called HMC or something down your way that makes COMPLETE fiberglass copies of the HSV kit, but only shipped one set to the US and that was it. Was something like $3300USD or so, which is about the cost of a genuine HSV front bumper.

Great car though, man!

Tim...called that SSV company today..they're sending me an email when they hear back from the post office about shipping to me. :) thanks for that link! I can get a bumper for like $370US + shipping.

I might need you to source me some VT-VX headlights (round inside edge, unlike my VZ lights) that is, if you can even do that lol. I'd much appreciate it.

So what's happened to this car? Well i still own it :p. Last 4 years of doing stuff to it (mostly playing with the stereo and fitting upmarket Calais/Caprice interior trim etc to it):
