Yeah, so I moved out of the house so I didn't have access to my mom's CR-V anymore, so I had to use public transport. I was sick and tired of waiting for the bus all the time, so I decided to buy a car.

It's a 1986 Mercedes 190E. The engine is tiny at 1.8 litres with 8 valves, and the 4-speed autobox isn't exactly the best, but it's very clean with very little rust. Everything works except for the rear electric windows. Oh, and it needs a new exhaust and front-right shock absorber. This is actually the first car I ever bought with my own money... finally.

I took these pics at Le Circuit Mont-Tremblant, in Quebec. I parked it there before I started flagging a track day today.

PS, the plate is temporary.

****ING PIMP! Good car of choice, these things last forever.

EDIT: I always though these came with the 2.3L...

Lastly, clean it, wax it, and take more pics!

Dude you made me waste $5.97 on new batteries.

@Bajnup, thx, and yeah I'll clean it, resell it, and I'll probably make a profit.

Well, it may not be quick but it has got a classic style to it and it looks comfortable. Looks like the leather has been well cared for too, which is a big plus.

Congrats on your first car.

The ****? Why would you sell that? That thing is a ****ing tank. Any other car in the same price range would be a definite downgrade.

Post some engine shots now that DB made you waste ~$5 CAD on batteries.

It's classic, reliable and I'm guessing it's comfy too. Congrats on the Benz, it's cool to have that as a first car. Should look like this one (http://www.nfscars.net/forum/picture.php?albumid=45&pictureid=593) though.

Max Prez

Yeah it's unbelievably slow. I could barely keep up with the brits in their Golf III on the track...

As for the leather, it's in very good shape surprisingly. And the rest of the car is good, although the sound is deafening. And it has no radio.

But I bought the car for 300 bucks.

I wouldn't sell it either. It's not every day you come across a car like that. It looks like it only needs a few hours with some paint care products and a vacuum to make it look like brand new again. Pretty rare for a factory original 23 year old car.

Plus THIS is bad ****ing ***:

There are clubs and forums for this car like you wouldn't believe. A lot of information on mods, maintainence...etc. on this car. It would be a shame to sell it and buy a Cobalt, or something of the like.

Old Mercedes are built like tanks. You should definitely keep it.
And only $300? That's a steal! Worth every penny, IMO.

When I get the money, I'll fix up everything first, only after that that I'll add some stuff to it. The engine is in good condition, although it doesn't look it...

Speaking of which I'll post pics with the bonnet up later on.

Who uses disposable batteries in a camera anyway... Lithium-Ion batteries GO!
Anyway nice ride, I also have a strange love for the 190E... especially the Evo II......

Max Prez
09-07-2009, 04:50 PM
Yeah, I really like the 2.3 Evo II. Quite the machine.

As for the engine...

I know, greasy and dirty. I plan on cleaning the whole car up on my free time. Then take more pics.

@ NAMETYR: Ah ben calisse, viens au circuit! XD

Nice car man, I love older Benzes.
You should get some leather protectant, give this thing a good wash and wax, and give your engine a good pressure washing

There's something strangely tempting about 190s. This looks like it has the potential to be a hugely kickass car.

200 thousand miles. Or 325k kilometres.
Everything is imperial since it's from the US.

OH GOD! Definition of a tank right here. Don't worry, it'll drive for another 200K.

Heh, I guess I found a nickname for my car.

I'll baptise it as "The Tank". lol

merc = win. wish i could have had a car like that for my first car.
and keeping up with brits in mk3 golfs can be hard, you never know what engines are in them. could be anythin under the bonnet up to a 2.8 vr6 (some people have tried with the 3.2 but have had big struggles.)

News!

You know the iffy shock absorber thing? It collapsed and it ripped the plastics apart under the fender. I was rolling on the track and it smelt like molten rubber. I'll have to remove the shock completely or else my hood will pop up every time I hit a bump. This'll be temporary until I get a new shock for my 190E.

PS the brits had the 2 litre SOHC engine. lol

Bilstiens or gtfo

Stock sports shocks or GTFO. Nothing is as good as Mercedes OEM shocks. Trust me, they're good.

How come I didn't see this? Beautiful man, beautiful. These feel firm yet incredibly comfortable. I've been in one of these. They're not fast..at all...the I6 ones are though. I think the block on these has two extra cylinders that's there but unused, no idea what can be done to it.

300 bucks is a ****ing bargain. These go for at least 2 grand around here. 200K is nothing for these cars, do the regular maintenance (and the parts that will have to be replace on their schedule, like water pump and MAF etc) and they will go another 100K no problems.

Congrats on the new ride.

VW are supposed to have tried the W12 as a mid-engined Golf MkV or MkVI. Not quite sure I believe it, but it couldn't corner (unsurprisingly).

That gen. of Merc. does seem very solid in build quality, as the others have said. Until the scrappage scheme I saw a fair few of them, but the scheme seems to have killed a number of them.

Nice car. I like such classic Merc's.

Its a nice thing that you got your own car at age of 19.
