Got a new car yesterday...I am back home so to speak :)

"...'84 4-door Jetta 'deluxe' w/ 187k miles
1.6 n/a diesel
5-speed
granny gold ext/gray n black int
stock steelies with rare jetta-only trim rings and caps
some surface rust, but NO rot. Strut towers, floors, spare tire well are all perfect.
t-belt and water pump done about 10k ago..."

It has a 60/40 cupkit suspension on it and is real clean.

Haha, thats actually why the title is DSLPWER.

That song came to mind, I went to look up lyrics and was gonna Copy/Paste them but didn't feel like it. I am hopefully trying to get a few things done before show season. Was looking to get the E-Code Euro light setup (the one large light on each side) but people want too much for them here. May just have to go with what I have.

But instead of the ATS Cups, I'll find some Ronal Turbo (R10) wheels, or ATS Classics.

I plan on picking up a VNT Turbo from another TDI car and fabbing up a plate to mount to the injection pump to hit a Vacuum toggle switch.

It'll make the car a TDI, and when I go WOT it will open the wastegate to full boost :)

i like it, good man for not thinking much about body mods, cars liek this need preserving and not too much modification, any body mods should really be kept as VW (like the euro lights etc)

Sir Tristan

Euro lights FTW (although it's the only thing we get here, innit mate ;)).

Not particularly fond of ATS Cups, but Ronals look good.

You're putting a TDI into this ride? coooll. Gonna be like a taken-care-of american muscle then :D

however, Cult style cars can actually be just a project in progress,
http://ll.speedhunters.com/u/f/eagames/NFS/speedhunters.com/Images/Mike%20Garrett/1May/Car%20Features/rat%20bug/rat5.jpg
in a lot of cases on a rat such as the above, the body work is properly straight and under-neath the vehicle you would likely find that all the suspension components and things are in mint condition, the car just hasn't made it to paint (usually due to a lack of funds) or it is just for the sheer hell of it before the car becomes perfectly painted.

I personally think rat cars can look AWESOME when done properly.

on lighter news, once the weather picks up towards summer i might be looking into buying a Bora (or for americans Jetta) :D

This wasn't a permanent fix, just something to prevent the spreading and to stop it from being such an eye sore whenever I went outside haha.

I grinded it with a wire wheel and brush and then hit it with sand paper...the zinc primer will help prevent the rust from spreading any further than it already has gone.

I traded my 89 GLI for the Golf ;)

Well, Kracka has already said he's going TDi with it.

I'm guessing that will be a 1.9l, PD 150hp if he can afford it. That's a tunable motor (for a diesel) - from a base of 150hp and 236ft-lb, a straight performance remap will deliver 206hp and 322 ft-lb (assuming the fuel is as good as it can be). An uprated turbo and clutch will allow 260-ish hp, and supposedly Celtic Tuning have built one to 300hp+. Hate to think what the torque is with those upgrades.

I traded the blue car for the GTI, I wanted to sell it as I had a few issues with it that I didn't want to dump money into....but I ended up breaking the car I got out of the trade.

I am always looking for ways to upgrade myself....trading a car I bought for 1k for a car thats worth $3000-$3500 when its in working form is something I'd like to constantly do.

As far as the TDI goes, it would still be the 1.6 that is in the car now, but my friend and I would be fabbing up a turbo setup for this car, once he finishes working on his own.

I cranked the fuel screw on the car to make it a little more fun to drive, it's much quicker than before, too.

The only time the smoke is really bad (worse than above) is 2nd gear WOT at low speeds...in the picture I have the cold start valve out, and floored in 5th gear.

The only thing the air filter does in this car is stops huge chunks of road debris from entering, the car takes on unlimited amounts of air as there is no throttle body or anything on the car.

True of any diesel to be frank.

That's partly why modern T-Ds are capable of competing with NA petrols.

You can usually benefit from higher cetane fuel though.

lol, I'd like to see a 3.0 N/A engine compete with a 3.0 TDI from VW. Or better yet, a N/A 2.0 would have no chance against a Golf GTD's mighty 2.0 200bhp TDI engine.

Kracka
07-04-2010, 12:18 PM
Depends on the costs with getting the rest of the parts I need to replace currently. Euro fronts arent cheap over here due to shipping costs :(

Two headlights and a grille cost $270-$350 just for shipping, which I can probably find a wrecked Jetta for that cost lol.

I have been pondering the idea of doing a cabriolet front end, with the four round head lights but I was growing fond of the Jetta front due to its oddball-ness.

The MAJOR hurdle here is trying to convince my friend to do another front end swap...the reason being, is that the front rad support is welded to the innerfenders and the frame rails, as opposed to my MK2 where everything was bolted on.

Had I hit a deer in the VR (and everything cleared the engine) I would've just been pissed for a few days and gone about ordering new parts.

I just put a bid in on eBay for this car, so hopefully I can snag it up unless I get sniped last minute, and then continue to work on my other cars..

Bora taillights? They're the same I think. At least not nearly different enough to buy them.
Smoked ECode are alright, but I don't like normal white&red ECodes.

2.0, 115 horses, not exactly the best engine they have. But DAMN if I had a TDI 150PS. And chiptune it to 210. If it was 4Motion, even better. Whoa.

Have you noticed that enthusiasts care for things unnoticeable to an average person?

Famous Corrado steelies, 16", wow, look the same as Golf MkIII 15" ones, but wow they're oh so divine. Just get some BBS...

Off the top of my head; I think the jetta (NA) ones have like clear indicators and reverse but the bora (euro) have all red and unclear reverse

Borbets are ballin, but the Bora tail lights compared to the Jetta tail lights don't have much differences but to the enthusiast, it's noticeable.

On the early US tail lights, they are all red, except for the little square where the reverse light is, and on the Bora tail lights the reverse and rear fog section are clear/white.

I am unsure as to what I am going to do, right now...the Passat I bid on went way above what I was willing to pay, but the Jetta is still do-able.

The guy I bought the MK1 Jetta off of has a MK3 jetta for sale, and I can get it for $400 most likely, but I'll just get tired of it and sell it quickly. So I have no idea what I am doing.

Doesn't matter what you're doing, this is meant to be a daily driver, use it as Linkin uses his Audi winter warrior. Bone stock, bulletproof. Asks for more in case of abuse.

Go for as new and cheap as possible (in the confines of cleanliness of course), don't get sentimental about old cars/modern classics - you already have 2.

So a Mk4 is perfect - no emotion, ok ride, relax. Focus on your badass VR6 and quirky diesel Jetta.

BTW: I just found out the difference between Bora Estate and Golf Estate in Europe, Bora had 'posher', all-red back lights while the golf had orange/white indicators

Slowly moving along. I have every part I need, but I am going to do something slightly different than the basic US front end.

The core support from this car was salvaged and is going to be put on my car once I find the motivation/time to get it going.

As far as what I am going to do slightly differently with my front end is that I will be scouring the junkyards for a Dodge Dynasty and installing those headlights into the front end of the Jetta.

Yeah, I need to cut the mounting brackets that the stock jetta headlights mount into, as well as the bezel that surrounds them with the grille. Then add a pin thru the assembly to adjust them horizontally.

Update as of 10 minutes ago:

Replaced the V-Belts for the crank/water pump and alternator, drilled out the struts in the front bumper to sit evenly with the front end(doesnt stick out) and then put my new wheels on the car.

Coilovers still havent gone on since it was a late night for me :/

Hot damn, this is now one serious car. The Euro front is beautiful, the wheels are astonishing and I like the colour.

The hood still gives it a bit of a rat look, but that's no bad thing. Cultstyle FTW.

Wheels look good but the paint of the car doesn't do them justice. But then again a new paintjob is bloody expensive.

They're knockoffs/reps but yeah, that they are.

I was trying to find a set of Ronal Turbos (R10) but everyone who had a set of them for a decent price didnt return any messages :/

So I got these for a few hundred less than what I was looking to spend, and got a 5th wheel/tire as a spare.

I got a set of Ronal R15s, but I damn sure know they wouldn't fit.
