View Full Version : "LOLMPG" 2010 VW Jetta TDI
Kracka 10-10-2010, 12:05 PM I bought myself my first brand new car yesterday.
Got a nice price on it, and after looking at the 2011 MK6 Jettas, I realized this would be the better purchase...and it's a turbo diesel.
Every option but sunroof and navigation, both of which I'd rarely use I think.

Tubaman 10-10-2010, 12:22 PM Very nice...How much did you pay for it? Nice to see it has a proper trans...
3ni_2nr 10-10-2010, 01:00 PM lol @ LOLMPG
Dr.DooM 10-10-2010, 01:02 PM nice, manual aswell. good lad!
i like!
Kracka 10-10-2010, 02:31 PM Out the door for 25k.
I wouldn't have an auto...cmon now!
MuscleCarFreak 10-10-2010, 03:18 PM Bout time you bought something that wasn't a used up pile of VW parts. I was starting to worry about you after you got rid of the GTO.
nfslover101 10-10-2010, 04:14 PM reminds me of the Tesla Roadster that said, "LOL OIL" on the plate.
Zpectre 10-10-2010, 04:57 PM Good move. The new Jettas have nothing on this one.
Here we can only get Jettas in auto transmission...
Andrew L 10-10-2010, 05:14 PM nice looking car!
and no nav? so all models come with a touch screen like that?
also kinda funny how the speedo goes in increments of 10 then 20 after 80
like the color, probably one of the best colors for this model along with black :)
I like it a lot, got me questioning the low redline before I realized that it's a diesel.
Congrats, Geoff!
AgentRoo 10-12-2010, 01:42 PM Yep.
Very similar to the layout of my vRS.
Which engine?
Scratch that, 6 speed box. Got to be the 2.0 170PS. Beautiful engine. Don't let the V8 fans know how much torque it has ;)
Sir Tristan 10-12-2010, 02:55 PM I wouldn't have an auto...cmon now!
A wonderful VAG DSG though, with such a diesel...
an amazing combo. But not a normal auto, no.

It is indeed the 2.0 but its the 140hp TDI, which is the only engine we get unfortunately. The torque is the main reason I chose this over the 2011 N/A Market Jetta with the 2.5.

Not too shabby...already have 200mi on this tank as you can see.
Zpectre 10-12-2010, 11:14 PM A wonderful VAG DSG though, with such a diesel...
an amazing combo. But not a normal auto, no.
DSG is boring to drive.
Sir Tristan 10-13-2010, 09:58 AM DSG is boring to drive.
And arsing about with gears on a car that is clearly not meant for performance driving is oh so interesting.
I'm sick of this manual-supporting shit. DSG makes your car more economical, and when you want it - faster. You can always use the bloody paddles if you wish.
Meastro444 10-13-2010, 10:02 AM What are your plans for it? Or are there no plans?
Kracka 10-13-2010, 11:16 AM No plans as of yet, maybe some smoked side markers, gli hedlights and a euro headlight switch.
DSG is just one more thing to break, and I find an actual manual trans more fun to drive in any car...this things moves pretty quickly thanks to the torque rating.
Actually spun a little in first and chirped 2nd on the way to work today haha
Sir Tristan 10-13-2010, 11:37 AM this things moves pretty quickly thanks to the torque rating.
Actually spun a little in first and chirped 2nd on the way to work today haha
I'm so glad you enjoy your car.
It must pull hard as ****. With some ECU mods this thing can outgun some V8s.
Dr.DooM 10-13-2010, 12:16 PM So one thing has been established; diesels are a lot more fun to drive than people think.........
This news is no surprise to me.
Sir Tristan 10-13-2010, 01:11 PM So one thing has been established; diesels are a lot more fun to drive than people think.........
This news is no surprise to me.
Neither is it a surprise for me. Diesels tend to be a louder than similarly displaced petrols though.
But the meaty torque, damn it. 3.0 TDI V6 in an A4 offers S4-rivalling performance and shitloads of torque.
Zpectre 10-13-2010, 09:44 PM And arsing about with gears on a car that is clearly not meant for performance driving is oh so interesting.
Of course it is, you don't need to be in a very fast car to enjoy driving.
DSG (and DCT, and PDK) is butter-smooth, which makes it boring. We owned a DSG Audi in the past so I know what I'm talking about.
I'm sick of this manual-supporting shit. DSG makes your car more economical, and when you want it - faster. You can always use the bloody paddles if you wish.
DSG makes your car heavier and thus, less economical. Using paddles is like a videogame, not so fun.
The DSG's main advantage is in urban driving, because you don't get tired as easily, but it simply isn't as fun as a manual. I'm all for giving options to people, though, which is what manufacturers such as BMW aren't doing by offering DCT-only vehicles like the new M5.
MuscleCarFreak 10-13-2010, 09:48 PM DSG is for girls who cant drive stick...
[/argument]
Sir Tristan 10-14-2010, 09:19 AM So all CEOs who drive Mercedes S-Class are girls who can't drive stick?
Get your facts straight. All performance figures are improved with double clutch transmissions. Get over it. 'Driving pleasure' doesn't mean shit if you define it by moving a stick around a leather casing in a ****ing traffic jam.
Manual is just cheaper and normal to use. Some people aren't masochists, you know.
Meastro444 10-14-2010, 11:14 AM Lawl.
I drive a stick. Have never driven an auto before. Frankly, I don't care what you drive, as long as you do it safely.
And why is auto normal? Because 90% of US cars have it? Pah.
MuscleCarFreak 10-14-2010, 01:39 PM So all CEOs who drive Mercedes S-Class are girls who can't drive stick?

Listen. Alot of us don't care about the figures if we cant have fun driving. For most of us, Driving with a stick is part of the "Driving Peasure." just because you're to bent on technology and cushy rides like some sellout, doesn't mean that we cant have our fun.
Only time you'll have problems with a stick in a traffic jam, or any situation for that matter is if you're a non-driving fool. Most people who drive stick learn to drive it so well, you cant even feel the change of gears in the passenger seat.
CEOs driving Mercedes-Benz dont drive for the awesome fun they have in it.. they drive them because most of them are pompous and unoriginal.
Besides, what does CEOs have to do with "Driving Pleasure" or gender?
Being a CEO doesn't qualify anyone to be a higher lifeform... The only thing thats different is wealth. At the end of the day, a CEO means jack to me.
3ni_2nr 10-14-2010, 02:10 PM Flappy paddles for traffic, stick for country roads and track days.
There's nothing more to it.
Sir Tristan 10-14-2010, 02:15 PM Flappy paddles for traffic
...and most kinds of motor racing, of course.
IMO paddles are awesome. But I like to stick to stick too.
Bl0cks 10-14-2010, 02:19 PM Take the pointless bashing elsewhere guys. Thats what off-topic is for.
Kracka 10-15-2010, 05:10 PM Manual > all. Just sayin, but damn...in 6 days it's already got nearly 500mi on it and it's sat for most of that time up at my work. haha
I am talking back and forth with someone about getting the car reprogrammed for some more boost and other timing adjustments. :)
Tubaman 10-15-2010, 08:22 PM Manual > all. Just sayin, but damn...in 6 days it's already got nearly 500mi on it and it's sat for most of that time up at my work. haha

Sweet...:D
Zpectre 10-15-2010, 08:30 PM That sounds great, there's tons of power to be extracted from these diesel engines.
nfslover101 10-15-2010, 10:01 PM Even though I am a huge GM fan, I must say I really love the new Jettas, and the new "clean diesels" I hear are wonderful to have. Does the bumper area near the tail pipe get pretty black from the exhaust, or are they really clean burning? I know the older VW's that had diesels would almost always have black stains on the bumper near the muffler (probably just owners failure to keep the car clean).
AgentRoo 10-19-2010, 11:48 PM Nope. they're very clean burning, plus diesels nowadays have particulate filters incorporated to trap soot and the like.
A good remap is worthwhile - but don't rush it. Give the ECU time to record your driving style and it will be much more worthwhile. Testimonial from driver of remapped diesel. (http://www.torquecars.com/tuning/diesel-tuning.php)
Don't know what quality of diesel is like in the US, but I'd recommend using premium if it's available. Personally, I only use BP Ultimate. Its a fair bit more expensive (8 or 9%) but the car seems a little more responsive and a little quieter. Certainly a little more economical.
*Insert moan about detuned diesels being sold to make petrol models look more attractive*
nfslover101 10-20-2010, 03:04 AM Ok, I wasn't sure about there advertisement selling "clean diesel" everywhere per Ad when they first started releasing them.
RedTwentyFour 10-20-2010, 06:15 AM congranulation on that babe, lovely and finally a car worth it for you.
i just wonder how long it will live XD
Sir Tristan 10-20-2010, 08:55 AM Manual > all. Just sayin, but damn...in 6 days it's already got nearly 500mi on it and it's sat for most of that time up at my work. haha

Dude, this engine can have SERIOUSLY meaty punch if you reprogram it properly.
And it must be so much fun having this great vehicle on your drive. Want.
Kracka 10-23-2010, 01:41 PM Nope. they're very clean burning, plus diesels nowadays have particulate filters incorporated to trap soot and the like.

As far as I know we don't really have an option of what grade diesel to use, we just have a single selection. The only problem is the amount of fuel stations that offer diesel, is pretty low.
The car is plenty fine for right now, and I've got to get the other cars finished before I really put money into this one.
Kracka 12-06-2010, 06:27 PM Mileage update:

Kracka 12-13-2010, 05:48 PM Haha, it's now got a little over 3600 now...buying some wheels for it soon as well :)
Kracka 12-28-2010, 03:15 PM Little over 4400 miles, and got myself a new camera last night.

Mr. Sting Ray 12-28-2010, 05:23 PM I see you were hit by the Christmas snowfall on the East Coast. I was lucky to have barely missed it on my flight out west to Phoenix.

Yeah we got about 8-10 inches or so. I got more here, than the University of Delaware campus got, even though it was an interesting storm. Southern DE got a foot and a half, and NJ got about two and a half feet.
Dr.DooM 12-29-2010, 02:43 PM we had a fair bit in the uk, spesh where i live, in place about 2 feet and on the moor tops more than that :D
4400 miles? barely even ran it in yet!

Sir Tristan 02-14-2011, 02:46 PM Needs moar low.
Wouldn't that ruin the ride smoothness?
Dr.DooM 02-14-2011, 03:48 PM shouldnt be too bad, its low profile tyres that really ruin ride ad comfort.
Sir Tristan 02-15-2011, 03:31 AM shouldnt be too bad, its low profile tyres that really ruin ride ad comfort.
OK, so they are reasonable now, so unless Kracka decides to make a 'stance' on BIG VAG wheels it'll be smooth.
Kracka 02-15-2011, 04:00 PM Ah, so you mean like these?

It's either going to be a set of those, or a set of some AMG wheels.
Sir Tristan 02-15-2011, 04:18 PM Ah, so you mean like these? It's either going to be a set of those, or a set of some AMG wheels.
Exactly that type. The Passat you posted is droolworthy and the wheels especially are gorgeous.
Myself I'm still on the fence about Merc wheels on VWs, but I see what people like about the idea.
Tubaman 02-16-2011, 08:12 AM or a set of some AMG wheels.

Like so. he's selling them BTW.
Sir Tristan 02-16-2011, 08:32 AM All that depends on personal taste as well as what look he's going for.
I'm dying to see the end choice and result.

Kracka 03-27-2011, 02:24 AM I ended up getting factory 2011 GTI wheels for the car for a ridiculous price. They're 18s so I am happy.

*Everything went better than expected*
These US-spec taillights are kinda smoky, and the 18" GTIs with black accents + color + window tint (?) and Jetta's lines is pure ****ing win.
Basically: Win here, win there, win everywhere.
nfslover101 03-27-2011, 01:17 PM I always loved those GTI wheels. :)
Dr.DooM 03-27-2011, 03:20 PM Basically: Win here, win there, win everywhere.
are you bipolar?
i'm bi-winning!
win here win there win win everywhere.
hehehehe charlie sheen
The GTI rims look dope on that car. Perhaps a set of bilstein coilovers <3 ?

Haha thanks.
Yeah the 2008-2010 Jettas recieved the smoked tail lights as opposed to Europes LED tails (I am highly jealous, by the way...) and the wheels set the scheme off perfectly. The only thing that isnt smoked on the car is the bumper side markers, which I am debating what to do there. Might leave them be to break everything up.
Here is a slightly better picture, but I couldnt open photoshop so I couldnt adjuset levels or whatever.
http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n263/3rdgenfan/jetta/IMG_0867.jpg
Coilovers will be up next, but I need to get the mk2 on the road first. So it may be some time still.
Tubaman 03-28-2011, 08:13 AM Looks great! stealership had a sale eh?
Kracka 03-28-2011, 03:12 PM Nahh, I traded my friend the 16"s cause he needed some for drag radials on his GTI, but I gave him like 140 bucks. So I managed to get $1000 worth of wheels for a grand total of like 500 bucks (If I had to rebuy the old wheels online) Otherwise I've got 1k worth of wheels for 140 bucks haha.
KV12supercharged 04-04-2011, 06:11 PM Very nice Huffs! I see you have the smoked mirror signals as well.
Kracka 04-10-2011, 09:39 AM Thanks ken, they may be getting replaced soon already haha. Looking into some Rotiforms or fifteen52's Tarmac wheels.
I found out what I am getting back from my income taxes so I am going to use the credit I got from the TDI and put towards some koni coilovers.
I just had the 10k mile service done on thursday so I am set for another 10k miles and looking forward to it!

I didnt really like the looks of the new Jetta till you got one lol.
Sir Tristan 04-12-2011, 10:36 AM Personally, I can't believe you want to change these gorgeous, proud bargain wheels. But hey, your ride; your project and vision.
Anyway at the moment this car is extremely well balanced. Lowering can only make it better. Lovely.
KV12supercharged 04-12-2011, 09:02 PM I spotted your car on Vortex when I was browsing through, your wheels looks great already I would imagine fifteen52 will look great on your car it will look rally ready!

Oh, look what I ordered.
Some European goodies. Those + the european headlight switch.
They're lovely, and I understand how you see them - fly LEDs and quality.
But for me they're so common and I still think the dimmed US ones look better (when not illuminated; I've seen the US ones in action, their lighting is gradual and looks very sleepy compared to Euro items).
But congratulations dude, you'll have LEDs at the back and those look miles better when using the turn signals. Braking action is also nice. You'll probably be far better visible back there. Not to mention the high-end effect of this kinda thing. It's usually exclusive to high end executive cars.
Tails_16v 06-10-2011, 02:38 PM American ones looked better. :/
Sir Tristan 06-10-2011, 03:14 PM American ones looked better. :/
You're used to Euro ones because you live in Europe I presume.
Understand that in the US, OEM LEDs on a car are generally still a sign of luxury.
But yeah: when off, US look better. When working - Euro rule.
Tubaman 06-10-2011, 08:03 PM Americans want euro parts, Europeans was American parts. Funny how that works. Anyway, i like what i see.
Kracka 06-27-2011, 07:34 PM More OEM goodies.

Coilovers went in last night.
2-Edge 07-15-2011, 05:42 PM Now that's awesome.
Tubaman 07-15-2011, 07:47 PM So dope.
Kracka 07-17-2011, 07:40 PM Picked up some smoked side markers at Waterfest XVII today in Englishtown New Jersey..put them in tonight and the car looks 10x better. I'll have to snag a picture in the day light.

Speaking of, I think this would look sick on your car. Carbon rear lip spoiler.

Kracka 07-18-2011, 08:58 PM Not a fan on dropping that kind of coin for a spoiler that I'd have painted anyway. Thanks for the link tho!
Here is a thread on Vortex my buddy put up tonight of a small shoot we did of my car and a mod we worked on when I cruised to his house after work.

MuscleCarFreak 07-18-2011, 09:07 PM The matte black looks very good.
2-Edge 07-19-2011, 08:26 AM Awesome. I always hated the massive amount of chrome on the front.
The VW emblems would look cool in black too.
Kracka 07-19-2011, 03:22 PM Leaving the grille and the emblems the way they are to break up the dark colors and add some sort of contrast.

Dr.DooM 07-23-2011, 02:11 PM i LOVE it!
Never was a big fan of the mk5 jetta until now, good work.
EDIT;
Matte black grill in last picture a PS or IRL?
Kracka 07-23-2011, 02:53 PM It is the real deal, sir.
Sir Tristan 07-23-2011, 03:11 PM It's amazing. And DAT R32 - nice taillights.
Kracka 07-24-2011, 08:59 PM To cover up the oddly placed stickers as well as the peeling paint, my friend who works at a skate shop gave me "a few" stickers, so I threw them on my fairing.

Dr.DooM 07-25-2011, 11:52 AM looks awesome, i think i prefer the mate black grill, the shiny shiny looks a bit. Ostentatious.
Kracka 08-14-2011, 12:36 PM Here are two pictures a friend of mine took yesterday at a show, I'll have some more in a few days.

Tubaman 08-15-2011, 07:38 PM Mmm nice .:R32
2-Edge 08-16-2011, 06:34 AM Mmm, nice Sawblades.
i'm drooooling over it now. It is very neat and looked like it just came out of the showroom.
D4RKCOD3 08-29-2011, 11:04 AM I actually kinda enjoy your car, although it's a diesel, which I do not particulary love.
Kracka 09-04-2011, 05:42 PM Test fit some new wheels, didn't grab a picture of the front of them on my car, but here is what it looked like.

Bolted them up to the front....annnd no go, they hit the coilover housing.
Gotta sell em.
AgentRoo 09-06-2011, 12:27 AM Dunno what to suggest. I'm pretty sure that Team Dynamics Monza R will fit fine (that's whats on my similar Skoda-badged model), but they aren't to everyone's tastes.
Dr.DooM 09-06-2011, 10:26 AM do they foul by a lot or is it just a slight rub?
You can get spacers and longer studs
http://www.eurosportacc.com/spacers.htm
might give you that little bit extra clearence?

Spacers would be great, but the following problem would be the poke from the wheel lip outside of the fenders. Would be far to much for the tires to stretch..Was going to go with 215/35s but that was only if it would have cleared the wheel wells.
D4RKCOD3 09-08-2011, 03:02 AM It's your car, but the original rims look better to be because they've got a touch of Giovanna Capri.

I dont know where you came from but every post you make winds me up like a clockwork toy.
Yes, i can see why that might be an issue.
It's a shame, especially with the crazy amount of dish them wheels have :}
Kracka 10-07-2011, 03:48 PM Nothing has changed on the car, really...been broke and busy. Drove it up to central Maine to my lake house was all the exciting things I've done.

Kracka 10-07-2011, 06:06 PM still looks ****ing epic mate.
Thanks sir!
What happened to the roof rack?
Took it off a few days before the show to detail the car and never got around to putting it back on. Claybared/waxed the vehicle and then it got dark hah.
Also took the PlastiDip off of the grille since it was chipping.
Tails_16v 10-08-2011, 02:17 AM You should get some black headlights. These just don't fit.
Kracka 10-10-2011, 04:42 PM I want a set of the blacked out headlights, but I am not sure that will be happening anytime soon...I need to really start spending money on the other car to get it finished (and registered!)
Here is a pic I took a few weeks ago.

Dr.DooM 10-11-2011, 10:39 AM oh yeah i forgot about the mighty VR6 ^_^

That's why a set of Giovanna Capri rims rules.
EDIT: I know that these aren't Capris, but they're identical.
Kracka 10-12-2011, 04:42 PM Isn't finalized yet, but it is gone.
3ni_2nr 10-12-2011, 05:32 PM Bad story bro but, I see why...
