The detailer at the dealership did a piss poor job at cleaning this thing... and then melting snow and dirt on the way to Best Buy and a few family members... It's a damn mess... Angers me that after a day, it's in need of a good washin'...

Guys, I'm sorry for the lack of good quality pictures and proof. I have been a tad busy as of late, my computer's ethernet seems to be crapping out, and the weather has kept me from giving it the Markley Detailing.

I'll just add some more information, and talk about how I feel after owning the car for a few days.

After quite alot of research, I found that my Taurus Limited is quite unique. It's got every option but DVD Player and NAV system. it's even got the Optional 18 inch 7 spoke chrome rims and optional spoiler.
What makes the car so unique is the landau roof with this trim package. To my understanding, this setup is extremely rare.

The ride is that of comfort and luxury, but performance is enough to let you know that 263 horses are used quite nicely.
Road noise is quite quiet.

Overall, I have to say that despite the style being so different from what I'm more fitting to, it's very cool.
Its really cool when everyone I know starts talking about the car like it's some expensive luxury car. I've heard everything from being told it looks like a $40,000 ride, to a pimp mobile.

The only things I have done is a nice chrome West Virginia plate for the front, and a chrome plate frame for the back.
The only plans I have is possibly tent the windows, and get some custom fit heavy duty floor mats. No need to do anything else.

As soon as I can figure out whats wrong with my computer, I'll post some simple pics with proof, and hopefully the weather starts working with me so I can get my chromed out beast cleaned up with the Markley Treatment.

Holy crap it even got the vinyl top? :D Now thats a quite strange combination with the rear spoiler.

The 500/5th gen Taurus is one of the last cars Id buy from Ford to tell you the truth, buts thats my oppinion and its nice to hear you like it. AWD should make it more fun to drive, too. I propably had prefered the Fusion tho.

It's not vinyl... It's like a heavy duty clothe top...
I agree with you that Im not a fan either, but it works very well with this car. I have to say that I like yhis setup better than without the top. Not to mention that I'm not a fan of the style of the side rear window of the Taurus, so to see that the side back glass was deleted on this style was a plus... Makes it look like a completely different car.

On a side note, my computer still wont read my modem... I dont know whats wrong with it. I hate posting using my HTC EVO.

It actually doesnt even make a noise til you open her up... Then it doesn't sound half bad, but with nearly 300 horses, it cant sound like shit.

I don't like the front end, but the *** is sexy.
I have to admit that the front has to grow on ya a tad... I promise that the pictures don't quite give this car justice... In some angles it almost looks like a Freestyle or something, but only in pictures.

I am still yet to find one that looks like this, the top and spoiler must not be very popular options. I like it though.
Indeed, this trim package with the top and spoiler is very rare. Apparently, a place in Pennsylvania takes a select number of cars fresh from the factory and installs these tops as a "special option" before they are successfully delivered to the dealership. This is by far the only Five Hundred/ Taurus I have seen with this top, and only the 2nd one I've seen with the optional spoiler.
I absolutely hate these tops, but I am a fan of uniqueness, and for some reason it works so well on this car... The top may have been a blessing and a curse though for the car... May explain why I got such a good deal on it, considering nobody else wanted it... lol

taunus...taurus...this is confusing!
It's funny you mentioned that...
...After I bought the car went to show it off to my parents. Well, I just walked in with the keys and told my dad that I bought a Ford... A Taurus...
He just replied, "A Taurus?? WTH son? I thought you were better than that! Why the hell did you buy a Taurus??"
Then he went out to see it and he became a believer... lol
He understood at that point.

It's hard to grasp the concept that the Taurus is actually a good car now... lol

I like it, somehow. The special top and the spoiler work strangely well, and I have to say it: the rear looks slightly like a late 90's Mustang.

Seems like a great car overall!

I was kinda messing around with the Taurus lastnight and got on it from a stand still. I was actually amazed how quickly the car came to life. The AWD totally hooked up, and not even a churp from the tires. I was watching my speedo and seen what looked to be roughly 7 seconds getting to 60. Without a camera I couldn't really prove this, but I did do some research and found a nice site showing 0-60 times and quarter mile times of nearly every car...

2008 Ford Taurus Limited 0-60 mph 6.7 Quarter mile 15.3

Have to admit, for a family cruiser sedan that weighs 3900 pounds, and no forced induction, I'm impressed with the numbers.

So far, it's been a hell of a car, and that AWD is very nice.

It's kinda funny, my Taurus seems to be quite a head-turner. I get more comments when I'm out and about over this thing than I did with the Baja. Not what I expected.

Too American. GTFO.

J/ks dude :P

Car looks cool. The way the roofs done for some reason looks nice, not in the obvious nice way but more of an odd "Thats weird but kinda cool" nice. The Taurus' in recent years have been getting progressively nicer. Saw one of the old 90's bubble things the other day at the shops. GOD it was ugly.

Should get some nice, tad muscle-y rims for it. Maybe a normal Gun Metal grey or a bit of a darker Matte Greyish-Black or something. Just a suggestion. Either way, nice ride.

Yeah, I see the older ones all the time, and just the sight of them makes me want to throw up. The progression from the 4th generation to the 5th is simply astounding. Infact, I think I have found the 5th Gen Taurus to be nicer looking than the 6th Gen... Thats probably only due to the fact that I own this one, and grown used to it.

I havent really considered getting new rims for the car because I love the optional 18 inch chrome rims it's got now. Maybe it will be something to think about later on.

For now, Tented windows and chrome exhaust tip replacements are all I have planned for. Maybe for the right price I will have the optional Navigation system/ Satellite Radio/ DVD player installed, but that would only be so I can have every option available.

It was a 3rd gen, I believe. But 4th is about as ugly.

The 6th gen appeals to me alot, since it has a more aggressive stance. I'd rather have that over here than the Falcon we have here. Plus i'm sure it'd make a better competitor to the Commodore. Still think either GM should import it or Holden should expand and start selling Holdens over there.

Either way, you've bagged yourself a mighty fine one. Nice work :D

Might sound silly of me, but I just found out today that I have Sirius Satellite Radio in my current system... I hit the "AUX" button one to many times, and "Sirius Radio" came up on my screen... I was like WTF?? Then it says the obvious "To activate call 888-XXX-XXXX"

Don't know if it's really worth it to pay for it though... I dont know how good it will be. Besides, I don't know what stations would be good for me.

Anyone have experience with Sirius?

That hurts! coming from someone who owned a 3rd gen Sable! haha its ok thought they sure did look odd. I always thought that the Sable looked a lot better, a much sleeker back and the 4th gen Sable looked nothing like the Taurus it looked way more up scale! While I was never too crazy about the exterior I loved my oval interior, everything molded to your hand which was nice, gave it a kind of cockpit feeling in a strange way lol

Seriously though, it looks really good. I'd never have thought it was a Taurus.

Looking at its engine and the exterior it can't be a bad car.

Decided to do a price check of a possible NAV/DVD system for my Taurus... $675 on ebay, which is a bit high for now.

It's not the optional system for my car, but it is a compatible Ford NAV/DVD Radio complete with Sync and the full 9 yards.

I'll price around and see if I can find a used system that is more for the Taurus, but this is looking mighty fine, not to mention that the buttons and such match up with the rest of my dash to a T... Just an idea for now...

Just wanted to point out how expensive this system is... nearly 700 bucks...

Andrew L
06-03-2011, 06:53 AM
That is actually really not bad for price and if its compatible with Sync that's a huge plus.

I wanted to get the factory nav for my Lincoln LS but I heard that I would have to re wire the main wiring harness so that's out of the picture, if I do get a nav it would have to be after market.

It's just a luxury option that's mostly seen on American cars. Doesn't serve any purpose other than to look more classy.

It's just like vinyl and soft tops from the 60's and 70's.
Before it was mainly seen on Muscle Cars and Cadillacs, but now-a-day's it's a rarity for a reason. The soft tops are a thing of the past, but it's still an option.

Soft tops are supposed to be like the final luxury option in today's American automotive market.
A car has to be specially ordered with a soft top, only if the option is available, obviously.

When ordered, the car doesn't see it's soft top at the assembly plant. It's shipped to special locations that do the tops. Mine was installed by hand somewhere in Pennsylvania as a "Factory Option" before it was delivered to the dealership.

Only a select few of the 2008 Taurus Limiteds were given this treatment much like the Cadillac STS and Chrysler 300C.

Cadillac STS

They still do soft tops for the Taurus as seen here...
http://www.voguetyre.com/images/products/gallery/0000004975/Ford-Taurus2011-SoftTop_1XL.jpg

It's nothing more than a visual option to increase the classiness of a car. American's have been doing it for years.

Probably should have added that I installed better headlight and foglight bulbs, vent visors, and had the car chipped, thus removing the speed limiter, improving transmission operation, and better throttle response. Probably shaved a good second off the 1/4 mile time.

Next additions will include nicer chrome exhaust tips, Slotted/cross-drilled brake rotors, cold air intake, and eventually tented windows... Maybe later down the road I'll throw in some HIDs.
