View Full Version : ABT Multivan VR6 2.8L

Well, I have been driving the car for a good amount of time but now it's officially mine. MY family owned it so I didn't think it was fair to post it as my ride till now. It's an unique car, one of-a-kind in my city & I always stood proud of it. It's a 4-th generation Multivan modified by ABT Sportsline, equipped with a 2.8L VR6 engine, which is absolutely brilliant (produces 174 HorsePower). It has an expanded fuel tank cause the consumption is pretty high. (I don't need the car that often though).
I have reached 194 km/h with this beast & I think it could have gone past 200 km/h if I had more street. (Rival vans can top up to 175km/h). The acceleration is breathtaking (for a van) and the exhaust sound makes it look even more faster. It's funny to see people's faces like "wtf", especially luxury SUVs owners :)
It also has all comfortable necessities for me (Bi-Zone Clima; ABS; Stereo System; 2 Airbags) and it's pleasant for long journeys. The only thumbs-down (except consumption) is that it has an automatic transmission.
Well, enough talking & let me post some pictures I made in a garage outside my city.

Wow! so much positive comments, thanks guys.
I didn't take a picture of the rear interior part but I'll try to explain.

http://www.windowsmediapc.co.uk/t4/uploaded_images/atlantisinterior-770155.jpg

It's the exact same layout only the seats have grey color. The 2 seats facing the opposite direction are removable & also the table is openable. So, in total it can have 6+1 seats (1=driver).
Also you can slide the sofa in the back so you can make more space for luggage. (You have to remove the seats)
That sofa can also be leaned so it will make a bed for a normal couple.

I plan to install a monitor attached to the roof like:
http://www.vomberg-gmbh.de/standard/inc/php/resizeImg.php?image=fahrzeuge/dyn_img/1630924_4.jpg&width=198&height=149

Both pictures used above are taken from the internet just for example purposes.

@PortuguesePilot
The black T5 I posted looks much better but it's 2.5 TDI engine makes it common.
The VR6 engine works sweet, has almost 160k kms done & still works like it was new.
VW in here has asked me to sell them the engine after I'm done with the car.

I will post pictures of the interior & engine in the following days.

Kids would jizz their pants in this one. :P
Once I went camping with gf & 2 other couples so instead of using 2 cars, mine was enough.
The fact of being big has its thumbs-down cause it's difficult to find parking spots. Also it isn't really the appropriate car when you go partying. (Only those guys who know something about cars will appreciate it, to the girls it's just another ordinary van)

BTW bought 2 cute little accessories from a T4 in the Wrecked Vehicles Market. They were pretty cheap & I also plan to apply them myself. I will get a photo as soon as I have them installed.

:P I don't like heavy tuning (in fact it's more a matter of pocket). I have some rims from another van, they are 18' black and grey colored. I just need to make them fit to this one (I'm not sure if it fits the wheel arches).

I have some 18' rims so I should try them first, some Xenon Headlights would be cool too.
The only part I hate in this car are the taillights, they are ugly & I never seem to find a sexy substitution for them.
I have thought even about a lowering kit & projektzwo genuine suspensions came to my mind:

"hurr durr, no one likes my car cuz it's american hurr durrr." No, your car is generic, this is a normal van with a cool little engine. Do you even know what a VR6 is? It's rare, it's interesting and it's different (in a good way), to all the other shitboxes on the road.

Thanks guys for your positive feedback & true Primus without the 6-cylinder engine it would be just another ordinary work van.

BTW, I'm in doubt about the upcoming modification. If I get the lowering-kit, it will look sportier & really it enters corners faster cause it's much closer to the ground. On the other hand it restricts your trips from bumpy/lumpy roads.
Also the 18' rims would look cooler but they won't fit the arches if the ride gets lowered. I'm more for rims & will see what I can find about taillights. The body-kit would be great but it should have a salty cost & I can't find one here, I'll need to order it from Germany.

I'm not "butthurt" because no one likes my Taurus. I get a tad irritated over the fact that I read comments like "It's American" like thats all the reason to hate a car in general, but then it's not ok for me to post my opinion about something I truly don't find interesting, which just so happens to be a VW Van. One reason why I facebooked it instead of being a 100% douche on this guy's thread. Out of respect towards the owner, despite questioning GTR's feelings towards the Rev up Video.

Maybe I should just accept that regardless of my opinions, I'm just automatically wrong, because it's obvious that any negative opinion about something that seems to get a surprising amount of the popular vote seems to be an act of immaturity.

Whatever.

Other than the fact that Ford Taurus is the most generic car in America, closely behind Corolla and Camry...
Which is exactly why I'm not upset if people hate it or not. If you are going to hate it, sure hate it because of the history of the Taurus, or because it is generic.

I can respect uniqueness... Infact, I think I can argue that I enjoy uniqueness just as much as the other guy, if not more... I mean think about it... Look at the cars I have owned. I bet you wont see many like them... Thats all I need to say.

I find the uniqueness with the van to be ok, but unfortunately, I just don't get the excitement over the engine... It kinda defeats the purpose of the "rare engine," considering it's sitting in a heavy van. What goes through my mind is, sure it's got 174 horses, but that van isn't light. "Fast" isn't exactly a word that I think of when I hear "174 horsepower Multivan."

But then again, I guess my opinion is due to the fact that my upbringing and location requires different vehicles for day to day living and recreation.
That being said, maybe I have been a bit insulting and norrow minded. it's easy to take for granted that not everyone in the world lives within 10 miles of me.

I didn't really feel like commenting to your discussion with GTR & Primus but lemme tell you something:
It doesn't happen like everyday to see yourself getting overtaken by seemingly random work van when you are on a sedan/SUV. In a sports car it's all predictable sporty/loud exhaust sound/fast etc while everybody gets surprised watching a "harmless" car having a loud exhaust.

I have an idea for the taillights. Tint them with transparent black spray.

I have seen some T4-s with transparent taillights, they don't look good. I'm looking for something simple, yet nice! for ex.:

Why the correction? There are countries in Europe that have a higher average displacement, like Germany for example. In Monaco, it's very rare to see a 2.0L+ engine.

Indeed, when I read it I imagined something like this:

It's a possible option, that way I won't have to change the whole taillight.

I don't think so, I don't need more power right now. I'm in to some light visual tuning & maybe do performance tuning in the future (if I'm gonna install turbos, I will lower the car first for better grip)

Your decision is correct. Vans are heavy and have no aero, so anything which helps stability is welcome.

Sick van BTW.

Why the correction? There are countries in Europe that have a higher average displacement, like Germany for example. In Monaco, it's very rare to see a 2.0L+ engine.

Unless you were under the impression I thought Europe is a country, even though I'm from there...

Derp.

I know you better than THAT. Though myself, I like to think of my continent as a largely similar bunch of countries that I do see as close. I feel at home anywhere in Europe so I guess I'm a European.

Anyways. Monaco is a VERY small area. Doesn't really count in the massive generalization of the whole European continent. I'm not saying all cars in Europe are under 2.4.

But seriously, for ordinary people, wherever it may be, anything over 3.0 is seriously big. Hell, 2.0 is regarded as big by some.

Obviously those are massive generalizations but still.

Thanks! & true with this height, when I enter a curve aggressively, it feels like it will lift off from the other side (I don't know the exact word for that, hope you understand) So, suspensions will be in my list for sure!

Nice, a VR6 in a VW Transporter(?).

And the interior is awesome. Also its the cleanest i've ever seen.
Though i have to admit the only one's i ever seen aside from this one were used for transporting building materials and other stuff, so it was extremely messy inside, most of time they were dented here and there and in general were used as "get from A to B with heavy stuff inside"

Transporters are built for transporting people/materials. This is actually a Multivan, the luxurious line of the VW vans. (Transporter>Caravelle>Multivan)

I approve of this.

These are the best looking custom taillights for T4 but I'll try to use the Transparent Black Spray on the orange tinted blinkers. This way I'll generate a similar result without having to change the whole part.

Thanks a lot guys. Unfortunately, I have been very busy lately. I wanted to tell you I have purchased some used projektzwo rear springs. (No absorbers but even the stock ones will do just fine) This model has 2 adjustable steel shoulders in the front wheels so I just needed rear springs.
Soon the car will be as high as a coupe :)
