For the first time in over a decade, Italian sports car manufacturer Lamborghini will offer a second model line as of 2003. The completely new Lamborghini model, named Gallardo (pronounced GA-yardo), will be introduced at the Geneva Motor Show in March of next year.

The new Lamborghini takes its name from a famous fighting bull breed, selected since the 18th century by bull breeder Francisco Gallardo and then incorporated by Don Antonio Miura.

Fierce, robust black or grey the Gallardo bulls were renowned for their courage and also for their power and aggressiveness until the so-called last third of the Corrida.

The new Lamborghini Gallardo will be a mid-engined four-wheel drive sportscar in true Lamborghini tradition, powered by an all-new V10 cylinder Lamborghini engine with 5 liters of displacement and a stunning 500 hp. Figures that will guarantee an outstanding performance.

Power transmission will be through a 6-speed gearbox with a traditional gear shift lever or a new sequential e-gear with shift paddles at the steering-wheel.

Production of the all-new Lamborghini V 10 cylinder engine has already started on the newly built assembly line at Lamborghini's own engine facility at the Sant-Agata Bolognese plant.

Rumors have been circulating for some time that Volkswagen may make a bid to enter Formula 1 with one of its brands. Could this V10 be a prelude to something bigger?

and yes the name Gallador is a name of a famous bull jsut liek teh rest of lamborghinis..

sweet engine, pumping out 500bhp, pretty good for a V10

car looks cool, but IMO represents the Murcielago to much, but i would still have one

the rear of the car might have been done in photo shop but im prety sure that the engine side and front weren't

i would deffenitaly rock one of them as they might come for 100K which is like 100 less than most Lambos

oh and please don't call me a bullshiter if you don't know shit about me

"Baby Murciélago Prepares For The Off
Wednesday 18th December 2002

As if one Lamborghini scoop wasn't enough, Auto Express can also exclusively reveal these pictures of the Murciélago's baby brother. The car won't debut until the Geneva Motor Show in March, but these shots give the best indication yet of what to expect.

The smallest Lamborghini will be powered by a monster 500bhp V10 engine shared with Audi's RSR, and promises true supercar performance. With four-wheel drive and a six-speed F1-style sequential gearbox, the forthcoming Lambo is rumoured to top 200mph and sprint from 0-60mph in 4.5 seconds. Lamborghini's engineers have worked closely with Cosworth and road car tuner Quattro GmbH to ensure the new baby is quicker than all of its rivals.

Codenamed L140, the official name is still under wraps. Stellar and Cala were rumoured to be on the cards, but these have now been discounted. Expected on sale next year, the new model will cost around £100,000, and is aimed at buyers of Porsche's GT2 and Ferrari's 360 Modena. "- Auto Express

I read about this a while ago.. I don't like it. It's like Lamborghini is stepping down in thier cars. Come on, why make a Lambo with a smaller engine? I also head this car was going to be sold for $110,000-130,000 USD. Whats next? V8 Lamb?

They did make a V8 Lambo back in the 80s it was called the Jalpa and it looked like a baby countach...just like this looks like a baby merc. The plus is the price once this comes out you can pay for 110k - 130k and say "Hey I got a Lamorghini!" instead of paying 250k-300k.

I know about the older Jalpa's but still. Well you have a lambo for 110k-130k but you don't really have the real deal until you get yourself a Diablo-Murc. Do you think that new Viper would waste this? That would be pretty sad.

Well I heard the baby Lambo will weigh 1100 kgs that's light compared to the mercs 1680 kgs plus the galladors v10 will pack 500hp. Anyways we won't know until it comes out. BTW the new viper is butt ugly in my opinion...the old viper was nicer with those beautiful curves the new viper has all these sharp edges. It's like they took a step back in there design...well anyways I would rather take a TVR cerbera over a Viper anyways

Oh yeah look at the side vents of all the Galladors they are all different.
I'm pretty sure those pics are fake. The car isn't done yet so we won't know what it will look like until it is revealed at geneva.

OK Here's what the LamboNut has on the L-140:The Gallardo name is NOT official yet,as other nameshave also been floating around(like Stella and others). The V-10 will produce over 500bhp.The car will be priced somewhere above $150,000 USD, but under the Murcielago's price. It will be built at the same factory as the Murcielago, but will be produced in larger numbers than the Murcielago. The car will be unveiled in 2003,probably at Geneva or Frankfurt(where the Murcielago was released). However,it will be shown to a select few at the Lamborghini 40th Anniversary party,at the factory.

Here is a true pic.

If that doesn't convince you, then this will.

The last one has a sort of "whale tail" on it.

They put the Murc rims on it because it resembles a Murc very well, but not when they're testing. It is not for sure going to be called the "Gallardo," it will either be that or "Stella."

that stuff on the back of the lambo on the bottom pic is for disguising purposes, im not sure if jettas' pics are photoshopped or not, especially as he was showing us a few of his photoshops the other day, hmmm...

i don't understand some people...isn't it obvious that the pics are all from the imagination of the graphic artists at whatever website they work on?
I doubt anybody outside of lamborghini knows or has seen an undisguised gallardo.

nobody is supposed to know what it looks like, hence the reason for the black disguise paints etc.
so overall, the only real pics of the car is the black disguised ones.

about the car...i've got a feeling lamborghini is basing this car on the old italdesign cala concept....that was a v-10, smaller, more affordable lamborghini that never made it...
