Spike Strip Mishaps- How close were you to hitting one?

How close were you (without actually hitting it) from getting into a spike strip? I know most of you probably have hit it at least once, but what was your CLOSEST distance WITHOUT hitting the nasty spikes?

I was about less than a centimetre once from hitting a spike strip, during an epic heat 5 chase, near the bus station. There was one SUV and spikes set up on the left. I tried to go to the right to ram the rhino, but the police cars pulled me to the left with a 10-59. So I quickly used NOS and Speedbreaker, and managed to squeeze thru a hole on the left side of the spikes, and I didn't get busted.

What happened to the cops, you say? Well they hit the spikes and their speed went from about 300 to 190 and I was able to evade them, and eventually evaded the heat 5 pursuit.

I saw the spike strip at the very last moment as it was just beyond the brow of a hill - I braked and turned hard right and my back end swung out - I was convinced I'd hit it the strip with my left rear wheel.
Even more convinced as my car seemed slow to accelerate. I must have missed it by a mere fraction of a centimetre and I was soon back to top speed.

Anyway it was my best pursuit to date - lasted for 14:40 and acheived me a bounty of over $2million.

Just Razor to beat now...

i find that spike strips are just silly waste of resources for the cops most of the time. 95% of the time, i just end up smashing the end of the block thats furthest away from it, though on a couple of succesive passes, i wasnt aware there was one until i drove up beside it. But its only in challenge series that i hit them, not career

I once went through a block right by the spike strip's side, I was forced to do it because the cop formation at the other side would be hard to break, so I just moved around the strip. I've almost hit it, though.

I don't recall jumping over a strip before, but I flew over two Rhinos once. It was funny .

Going into Rosewood from Interstate 99 to the college campus, I jumped the lip and just barely flew over them, I even thought I had blown out my tires, until I kept going faster.

i wanted to get a good photo of those civic cars and see how far i can make them fly.

other times, i just hit the furthurest police car from the spike

once i was going to hit one but the heli came from no where and hit my side so that side of my car flew up and didnt hit it i think it was mia that was driving the heli lol

i'v erun right over them and not punctured my tires... guess it was a quick bug. Ever noticed how the police and civilian cars can go over them but not do anything?

I don't know how close I got to one...but I ended up encountering one on a narrow street, with a heavy Rhino. I'm driving my red GTO and I've got black goat cruiser's on my tail...I see a cop at a standstill on my radar so I hit a quick speedbreaker and position my car for the tail-end of the Rhino. I undershoot because I deactivated the speedbreaker too soon and end up T-boning the SUV. This stops me and the two goats nail me from behind...I could've sworn I was busted but I squeezed out between the spikes and the SUV just in time.

That chase was awesome...best one so far.

Once I saw a roadblock and I thought I could just get past it with ease but then I noticed there was a spike set up in front of one of the police cars. I reacted in time and just missed it. That has only happened to me a couple of times.

Rhino burned in flames after, and car beside me couldnt continue with pursuit because it lost a tire.

I love how the spikes look like they're a foot tall.

I hit a spikestrip once but there were no supervising units around it and I swear I didn't see it in the road...

I saw unguarded spikes before, and they once COVERED THE WHOLE ROAD.

I guess I nailed one of those.

I was coming around a curve and my car (Gallardo) starts sliding...I keep thinking I'm in control because that car handles well. I knocked that scaffolding Pursuit Breaker as I slid so the car behind me was taken out but my car kept sliding and wouldn't respond. I went into cooldown for a second and then another GTO cop comes and smashes into me seven or eight times until I get busted.

I love the video where your guy tries to deck the cop lady but she ends up breaking your arm, nailing your gut...and pretty much destroying your dignity. Your ass gets handed to you by a girl cop...hahahaha.

Final pursuit cutscene, Razor finally coughs up the M3, and he gets OWNED big time... too bad there werent too many cutscenes in the game, though a benefit to more racing, it woulda been cool

Final Pursuit cutscene, where you fly over the bridge and all the other police cars plunge down like losers. That was fun to watch.

If only...only...Cross crashed into one of the roadblocks that his 'feds' make, and the airbags didn't work..that would be it for him.

Or if Cross got charged by the FBI for recklessly killing civilians in a pursuit.

i got on top of one spike....and i guess it was a game glitch but the car just kept on going.

i've went over the spikes loads of times. but i remember one time where my front left nicked it and i got away from the pursuit like 5 minutes later.....top speed was prolly 130-150 mph.... i thought it was really funny....and even after the pursuit was over...i got to ride with a flat tire......and it was in the bmw....that will never happen again...

hah yeah something like that happened to me too... i had about 3 cops on me in heat 4 and i saw the strip last second and swerve to avoid it but my right front clipped it... lucky for me the doughnut speed breaker was right behind it, i skidded into it and knocked out the cops and then sat there till it cooled down... then i drove around on the flat, it was funny. It was probably the funniest getway i ever had.

I somehow stopped directly over a spike, my car slid there, it was hell getting out but luckily there werent any cops behind me

Well, i sent many traffic cars over the spike, no problems, anyways, jsut slightly offtopic, but i just discovered that traffic cars can be a great help to totalling cop cars when smashed into roadblocks by you

I went over the spikes today in a SUV roadblock...teh rhino shot me up on top of the SUV, the rhino went over the spikes, lost speed, and let loose of me.

Still hard to believe police cars are unaffected by spike strips...that's twice already some cop car got an X in the immobilized column.

There was once a roadblock and a rig full of logs was in front of me. I just drove slowly behind it and the rig totally rammed a cop car in the roadblock. Then a cop knocked the logs of while I got away.

i did this yesterday, well, a few times, where i slammed a traffic car through a roadblock, and it works, no matter where it hit. First time, on Hwy 201, i slammed TV truck into heavy SUV, and it got totalled by rollover, and it hit the engine side. Second time, at College Circle, a taxi stopped dead in front of a SUVs side, i plowed taxi, it totalled SUV, and it shot up through the building, and never came back down. It seems that EA never anticipated that traffic cars would smash roadblocks like your car, and will treat the engine end like the back end, and send them flying

there were several times where I was sure one wheel at least cought a spike but the car went on un affected.

there was one very cool moment where a road block caught me by surprise, there was no chance to avoid it... I tried to break and a rhino behind be rammed my car which with the help of a tiny bump in the road sent me flying over the spikes!!

dude, screw not hitting it or missing it. i JUMPED OVER one!! hahaha, in Career, i have my Lamborghini Murcielago at all Junkman, and i do a little manuever that lets me jump really high, and if timed correctly, i can jump over spike strips, SUVs, and 18-wheelers. lemme go take a screenshot of me flying real quick *loads NFS:MW to take screenshot*

My front end hopped over a spike strip today.

I had my Murcielago and there was a road block of Rhinos and spikes to the left. I went for the tail end of the Rhino adjacent to the spikes but ended up nailing the middle. The SUV flips and my Lambo flies sideways over the spikes...all in slow motion and everything so I got a good view of it. Too bad it's on my PS2...so no screenshot.
