I started work on a Ford Bantam Bakkie for NFS4HS 2003/11/28. I've almost completed the Driver's side door (88 Polys, 77 Vertices).

88 polys for the door is a bit much don't you think? 19 should do :super:

Yea, 88 is too much for the door, unless you're going to make it for like NFS6... Looks like it has some good detail. Can you post some pictures of the wireframe&solid.

Dude, try not o make double Threads- if you're gonna show your work limit it to one thread and then simply post its link when need:

Yeah, Textures may suck a bit 'cause I've not been able to find any decent views of this car on the Net. I'm modifying the CAR.TGA file for Armans Ford Escort XR3 on ND4SPDWorld as I go along
The number of Poly's & Vertices is high but I am trying to make the Vertices etc depict the shape rather than the Textures (This will also help if I want to add graphics etc to the Bakkie at a later stage  I thought the pics I've shown of the door do include a wireframe & Solid View, if not, please explain & I'll try to oblige :? @ Viper Jay 5: What are double threads? (I started a Topic in the General NFS discussions for the Ford Bantam prior to considering making this Bakkie but now that I've started making the Bakkie, I decided to make the Topic in the appropriate Forum) :? |

@ Viper Jay 5: Sorry, I've realised what you meant by double threads. How do I go about closing the Topic to which your link referred. Do I simply stop watching the Topic?

As you can see from the attached pic, things are going really slowly. The wheel belongs to Arman for his XR3i & is only included to give an idea of scale - I'm hoping to scratch make a set of 17 inch Hockemheim R'S for the Bantam. What you see thus far is 203 Poly's & 144 Vertices.

Looking good. Must be the first time I've seen the word "bakkie" used on NFSCars too!
Where abouts in SA are you? |

@ TheVoice: Durban.
Do you make cars for any of the NFS games? The word 'Bakkie', & Bakkies themselves, e.g. Ford Bantam, Mazda Rustler, Opel Corsa or VW, do appear to be rare in the NFS Community, thus the reason I've decided to make this. |

'bakkies' or pickup's are rare indeed
Good to see you're making progress, altho the textures could be better. Just keep plugging away, and you'll get it ![]()

kingbacoza: I try my hand at pursuit cars from time to time - been working on some British and South African ones as of late, but the lack of decent base-cars makes life difficult. That, and the fact that my new PC doesn't seem to fond of NFS4 right now...

DJC & Krikke: As I've mentioned before, the textures suck as I'm modifying the CAR.TGA file for Armans Ford Escort XR3 on ND4SPDWorld at the moment. I am planning on taking the relevant front, side & back pics of the actual car but if my shaping is accurate enough, pics of the actual body may not be neccessary - I'll just see as I go along.
I've never tried ZMOD (Had it & for some reason which I can't remember, trashed it). Perhaps I'll download it again & check it out. I mostly use CARCAD, FCETweaker & FCE Finish. TheVoice: Let me know if you upload a car sometime & I'll check it out.

Just pics to show progress (396 Poly's & 257 Vertices excluding the wheels which belong to Arman). As I've mentioned before, when I get round to the wheels I'll most likely attempt to make a set of 17 inch Hockemheim R'S with low profile tyres. This should look good with the car having a lowered suspension (I've made the wheel arches such that the wheels will tuck nicely into them).

humm... well I like it, even though it could be better if you use a hole 3d body and rims than a tex one. But if it's your first car, its a very good start :super:

@ Organic Zero & Tim_Monaro_Madness: The rims were textured but as I,ve mentioned b4, they belong to Arman & will not be on the final release. I will be making a set of 3D Hockenheim R's. I am attempting to get the basic body done (No pics etc to trace in CARCAD) afterwhich parts that are not already 3D, i.e. doorhandles, will be redone in 3D. The final product will be mostly, if not all, in 3D. The flared wheel arches, doorlines etc are already 3D but are not showing up to well in the pics. I've recently downloaded Zmod & as soon as I become more familier with it & progress with the Bakkie, hopefully I'll sumit better pics. The following is the progress thus far but shown from FCE Finish.

kingbacoza-
Nice progress you've made so far I'm anxious to see what kind of 3D Wheels you're gonna put on this - Also, do you plan to have the "bed" of the truck open or covered ? |

@ Viper Jay 5: The Bakkie bed is definately going to be open
One of the nice thinks about an open bed will be to load it with whatever, i.e. Motorbike, People etc. I normally race using the roof, heli or Low cam & these additions will make for interesting viewing. NB: I don't plan to release the Bakkie initially with anything in the open bed area. 3D wheels will be 17 inch Hockemheim R's with low profile tyres. I,ve seen them on one of these Bakkies & they look cool, especially with a lowered suspension.

Made further progress.
Front grill, air intakes, spoiler, body lines, fender arches all 3D Still to redo door handles in 3D 688 Triangles/Poly's & 473 Vertices thus far Air intakes etc do have in-game transparency (They have been filled with Poly's but are transparent as the CAR00.msk file for the CAR00.TGA file). Attached see pics from CARCAD & FCE Tweaker (Not the best to show the 3D detail) ![]()

@ krl99: The windows only appear textured in the pics due to the CAR00.TGA file. In-game they appear normal as I have assigned all the correct Poly settings as needed for Windows. Also, the textures w.r.t the CAR00.TGA & the MASK are still very much a work in progress :?
Thanks for the Tutorials but I really don't need them or already have them :super:

hum... for a textured car, you are making too many 3d details... that's no good, cus looking at the actual wireframe, it would be easier if you ditch the texture and work everything 3d, cus, well, the details you need (i.e.: front grill, doors, lights, etc) are there already..., you made polydivisons for every part....

If I decide to later convert all parts to 3D then I will consider ditching the textures although, even if it is not warranted, I don't think that 3D combined with textures is a bad thing. NB: I am now busy with the rear end & can't find pics anywhere. I,ve had to make up taillights etc but I will ensure that it will meet with the standards that I am hoping to obtain on the rest of the car - hopefully I'll be able to attach some of these rear end pics soon.

I'm just trying to remember which wheels the Hockenheim R's are. 8 spoke with split spokes?
Bakkie's almost never have a canopy on it, although a fibreglass canopy would be cool. The only bakkie I can remember with a tarp on it was my uncle's Rustler, because he always had speakers and mixers in the back. That was blue, with white Smith's wheels, and HUGE Cerwin Vega stickers on both sides. Chrz FCDesigns2002

Although I don't intend releasing the Bakkie with a fibreglass canopy, perhaps I may decide to do this as an OT part. I prefer the idea of having the open bed so that I can load other objects for future updates such as a motorbike. Tarbs, especially the lockable sliding types, are very popular as they add security as well as looks if you're going for the customised look.

This is the progress on the rear end. As can be seen from the pic, I've still to do the 3D colour coded rear quarter bumpers.

I quickly but this together to give an idea of what the bakkie's going to look like.
NB: Only the body (HB) part is totally scratch built by me thus far. One half is 726 Vertices & 1016 Polys (I,ve just placed the other half to get an idea of what the car is going to look like in game and renamed the half I,m working on MB instead of HB). The other bits & pieces are from ARMANS XR3i which I have used to ensure my scaling is correct as I don't have any pics or blueprints to go by thus the XR3i is serving as a kind of blueprint). NO PARTS etc will be used from ARMANS XR3i & this car will NOT be riced on anybody else's work - The end product will be totally scratch built by me.

Sorry it took sol long to reply- I'm merely very busy with other matters- for one, simply tell one of the moderators or myself and we can lock the topic for you, however...I've noticed that you have some activity on that thread also...so, until it is no longer "productive" I will let it stand...if you notice that it "dies" down, please notify me and I will lock it, Thank you :super:[/quote]
I would appreciate it if you or one of the other Moderators would lock the double thread. I think it was http://www.nfscars.net/phpbb/viewtop...691&highlight= :super: I stopped watching the topic some time ago & will not be commenting on it any further - all future updates will appear on this topic. PS: I've made some very notable progress with the Ford Bantam & will properbly show these off early in 2004. I realise you are very busy (I've been following the Latest Headlines & seeing your comments against the uploaded cars) so whenever you get around to it. Thanks & keep up the good work. :super:
