Need For Speed 3 Menu Music For High Stakes

This .rar file contains the Need for Speed 3 Menu Music which has been converted to the asf interleaved file format used in Need For Speed 4. It replaced the terrible menu music in High stakes with the much better songs available in Hot Pursuit.

First, make a backup of your 'C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Need for Speed High Stakes\Data\Audio\Music' folder. Copy this backup somewhere safe, in the event you dislike real music ;D

To install these files, copy all of the .asf files within the Archive into the 'C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Need for Speed High Stakes\Data\Audio\Music' directory, and overwrite any files with the same names.

There may, in some cases, be no music folder within the High Stakes directory. This is because the game streams its audio directly from the disk as a method of copy protection.

A workaround is to use one of the many no-cd patches available online to bypass this restriction. During installation of one of these patches, you must copy the Music directory from your retail CD:

":\Data\Audio\"to "\Data\Audio\".

This will usually be covered inside the README for the patch.

The tools used for the extraction and conversion of Need for Speed 3 audio into Need for Speed 4 Audio are as such:

Game Audio Player:

This extracts and converts the audio from .MUS format to .wav

This converts the .wav file into the .asf file container with the EA ADPCM codec

This converts the split .asf file from the ditty converter into an interleaved format, found in NFS4. Note that this is a command line tool which uses theses arguments (splt2int input.asf output.asf)

A personal thank you goes out to the team at CTPAX-X who acted promptly on my bug feedback on a 4 year old application and within hours had a working program for me to use! Absolutely Amazing.
