By following this tutorial, you can see a quick and easy way to run NFS: HS on modern operating systems (NOTE: I HAVE NOT tested this on XP myself, but I see no reason why it shouldn't work. I HAVE tested it on Vista extensively.) One of the best things about this tutorial is that MOST LIKELY YOU WON'T HAVE TO DOWNLOAD ANYTHING aside from this tutorial to get the game up and running. In some circumstances, the 4.50 patch is necessary, but not always.
Just one caution: NFS: HS on Vista appears to be VERY sensitive to high-poly cars, even with the high-poly patches. For some reason, if more than one is on a race at once, the game shuts down. But aside from that, the game runs flawlessly (there's even a widescreen mode for those of you who could use it!)
